• However, the reason you need a diesel generator

• For example, in a location where electricity is
  supplied through a power grid like residential
  buildings or manufacturing units gensets is used
  for power backup whereas, in a construction
  project or mining site where the location has no
  access to the power grid, gensets are used as the
  primary source of power.
