Title: Car-Train Accident on County Road

1
Mathis
  • Tragic accident involving a car and a Union
Pacific Railroad train on County Road 1136 last
    Saturday.

2
  • According to local authorities, the major wreck
took place at around 1030 a.m. on County Road
1136 near Mathis. A vehicle ran a red light and
collided with a passing train. The impact of the
collision pushed the car into a cable barrier,
    crushing it in the process.

3
  • Car collisions are extremely prevalent in Texas.
According to the Texas Department of
Transportation, one person is getting injured in
    approximately two minutes. Unfortunately, despite
the governments aggressive efforts to educate
drivers about safety, the cases of speeding,
driving under the influence, and negligence are
still on the rise. In fact, most of the common
causes of accidents in the state are due to the
drivers lack of awareness and precaution.

  • When railway accidents occur, regardless of the
causes or the safety measures that were in place,
we cant help but wonder about the safety of
train travel. After all, when a vehicle as large
and heavy as a train crashes, the resulting
injuries and loss of life can be both tragic and
    extensive.

7
  • The number of passenger injuries is increasing.
Sadly, the rate of passengers injured while
traveling on Amtrak trains is a shocking 58 times
higher than for French rail passengers. Although
    high-profile accidents involving passenger trains
more regularly make the news, studies show that a
person or vehicle is struck by a train about
every three hours. Trend data dont provide much
comfort, as The National Transportation Safety
Board reports that deaths resulting from injuries
sustained in train wrecks were up 6 in 2012.
