  • Regular exercise has huge benefits for your
health. Exercise helps you achieve a healthy
heart, brain and metabolism and reduces risk of
heart attack, stroke and premature death.
  • Exercise has been proven to have very significant
advantage on general health benefits for
everyone, weather they have got existing joint
    troubles or not.
  • Despite all these benefits, there is a rising
belief that exercise causes arthritis. But the
fact is an obese body causes much more strain on
your joints than exercise. Even though obesity is
not a huge determining factor for arthritis,
physically active overweight people are just as
prone to arthritis as the fit ones.

  • Studies have also shown that most active people
had the same risk of arthritis as the non-active
ones, both in terms of symptoms and x-ray
    abnormalities.
  • Arthritis happens when the cartilage that
cushions the joints begins to wear and tear. The
cartilage does not have its own blood supply, it
has to depend on joint fluids for its nutrients.
Exercise compresses joints, forcing more nutrient
rich joint fluid into cartilage, thus making
    exercise good for joints.
  • A few things should be kept in mind when you
develop exercise as a habit like warming up and
cooling down with good stretching to protect your
heart and joints. Good shoes and good technique
will also avoid and musculoskeletal injuries.
Simple precautions and general sense will make
    exercise safe for your joints.

  • Exercise will benefit your joints and your
health. Being active and exercising will help
your joint get flexible and keep excess weight
off your body, which will help prevent adding
    excess stress to your joints.
  • Exercise can sometimes have side effects, as
there is a correlation between simple repetitive
use of joint and developing arthritis, but if
your joints do not hurt by the exercise you are
doing, it is unlikely you are doing them any
    harm.
  • Exercise does not always cause harm to joints and
moreover it has more to gain and less to lose.

  • If you want to avoid any problems while
exercising or later in life, make sure your
general health is good. Older people and patients
with heart disease, hypertension, diabetes or
other significant problems should get a medical
    clearance.
  • You should focus on listening to your body when
you exercise and be sure to report any signs of
    discord to your doctor.
