The Nosara Refuge for Wildlife was founded in
1999 to protect and provide safe haven for local
animals that had been injured, orphaned, or
otherwise displaced. Nearly 20 years later, the
center has achieved its mission and grown,
working today to rescue animals from greater
Nosara (located on the northern Nicoya
Peninsula), down throughout the entire peninsula,
and even from other parts of Costa Rica.

In addition to their most vociferous residents,
the Nosara Refuge for Wildlife also runs rescue
and rehabilitation programs for squirrels,
coatimundis, kinkajous, porcupines, margays,
opossums, raccoons, and bats, as well as Costa
Ricas other primates squirrel monkeys, spider
monkeys, and capuchins, among them and a slew
of injured birds, including hawks, owls, parrots,
doves, toucans, and vultures.

So, what does that mean? Essentially, the refuge
is equipped to handle wildlife emergencies
especially monkey electrocutions and alpha male
attacks as well as abandoned/orphaned wildlife
and other injuries. Whenever possible (and they
fighthard to make it possible), the refuge will
provide medical care and rehabilitation, with the
sole goal of releasing recuperated animals back
into nature.
