Top Myths About the Orthodontist and Braces
2
Introduction
Your dentist advised that you should visit the
orthodontist and get braces placed on your teeth!
Some people would rather face jail time than have
their teeth placed behind metal bars. Along with
new names such as 'brace face,' you might be
thinking of a number of negative associations
related to trips to the orthodontist and living
with braces. The fact is that there are a large
number of myths that exist to spook those who
need corrective dental procedures and the reality
is far from the horrors of those myths.
3
Myths
One myth is associated with the tightness of the
braces and makes your orthodontist out to be a
madman who use braces as medieval torture devices
which get turned tighter and tighter while you
writhe in misery. The fact is that while
orthodontists were always out for the betterment
of their patients, braces were associated with
some tightness and discomfort in the past. With
today's technology and flexible wires, discomfort
is significantly reduced. Some people may think
an absence of pain means the braces are not
working. This is not true your orthodontist is a
professional who studied for years to learn how
to manipulate braces to make your teeth straight.
The braces are working however, they are working
with less pain involved.

Myths
Second is myth involves orthodontists who
maliciously make patients wear braces for a
longer amount of time than needed. As mentioned
above, orthodontists are professionals who train
for years to get the chance to work on your
teeth. They take pride in helping others and in
their craft. Your discomfort and disappointment
are the last things they desire, but they must
ensure your teeth are properly aligned before the
braces come off. Unfortunately, sometimes the
correction takes longer than previously expected,
but it may only take a few months longer. On the
other hand, sometimes braces can come off sooner
because the teeth have modified at a greater
pace, much to the excitement of the patient.
Enjoy the peace of mind in knowing that your
orthodontist is doing all they can to ensure you
have a beautiful smile to last a lifetime and is
making decisions for your benefit.

Myths
The last myth involves the social stigma attached
to braces. Many young people believe that getting
braces means social solitaire. The fact is that
many young people get braces, and any pre-teen or
teenager who gets braces won't be alone. One
quick solution anĀ orthodontistĀ can provide is
clear braces clear braces correct teeth in the
same manner as their metal counterparts but are
less visually apparent. If the cosmetic
appearance is what concerns those who are getting
braces, then they can rest assured that the time
wearing them is brief in comparison to hosting a
beautiful smile for the rest of their lives once
the braces are off.
