Title: What a Business Should Expect from ISP

1
Things that businesses require from internet
service providers
2
Sufficient bandwidth
  • The bandwidth requirements will depend on the
size and nature of your business.
  • How many devices and systems will be connected
and how many of those will require transfer of
    data?
  • Do you require a point to point connectivity?
  • How much bandwidth are you anticipating
  • How fast do you need your internet connectivity
    to be?

3
Better Security
  • The most important consideration for businesses
should be the security provided by the ISP
  • Not all internet providers can guarantee
protection from spam, viral threat, spyware, or
    even intrusion
  • Check if the ISP company undergoes frequent
security audits like SSAE 16 validation which
addresses how the security is managed and
    maintained.

4
Shorter Installation time
  • Check the installation timelines of different
    service providers.
  • Most of the ISP require 30 to 60 days to set up
    their connection in new location
  • Work with the ISPs to know the installation
    timelines and expected delivery times

5
Good customer support
  • Another important consideration is the quality
and availability of the ISPs customer support.
  • When your business is running, you do not want
any disturbance due to connection problems. The
ISP need to be available and accessible when
    things go south.

6
Future oriented
  • You would like to have an Internet Service
Provider that is always updated in its
technology. The world keeps changing and so does
    the internet technology
  • Any new technology arises then you would want
your ISP to provide you with that technology.
  • It also helps in having an upper hand over your
    competitors.

7
Consistent upload and download speed
  • You need to consider if you need higher download
speed from your ISP or if your operations can
manage with usual web browsing and mail setup
  • Analyse the number of users or employees who will
be connected to the internet in a day
  • Check if the ISP is throttling the bandwidth
    during the day

8
Routing
  • Route is a process where in your ISP connects
your office network to various computer networks
that make up the internet. There are two ways ISP
does this. One is called transit(which is paid)
and the other is called non-transit( non paid)
  • Decide the extend to which you would like to
connect your business by either going for transit
or non-transit or combination of both.
  • There are ISPs who refuse to pay the transit fees
for connectivity. They would not be able to
connect you to the entire internet
