Food colors

• The aim of the food color is to simulate a color
  perceived by the consumers as natural and
  appetizing.

Acid Dyes

• An acid dye is a dye that is typically applied to
  a textile at low pH. 
• Textile Applications - Acid Dyes are effective
  on protein fibers, i.e. animal hair fibers like
  wool, alpaca and mohair. They are also effective
  on silk. They are effective in dyeing the
  synthetic fiber nylon, but of minimum interest in
  dyeing any other synthetic fibers.
• Classifications - Acid dyes are classified into
  3 classes as under
• Acid leveling dyes
• Acid Milling Dyes
• 11 Metal Complex dyes/ 12 Metal complex Dyes
• Usage - Acid Dyes can be used for dyeing
  leather, paper, straw etc as well as for coloring
  ink, lake, paint etc.

Basic Dyes - Liquid Basic Dyes

• Basic dye is a cationic stain and reacts with
  material that is negatively charged. Usually
  available in synthetic form, these act as bases
  and are actually aniline dyes. As their color
  base is not soluble in water, this can be
  achieved by converting base into salt.

Reactive Dyes

• Reactive dyes are highly colored organic
  substances that are primarily used for tinting
  textiles.
• They are water soluble and exhibit better wash
  and light fastness properties.

Vat Dyes

• Vat dyes refer to a whole range of dye types
  mainly because of the method used during
  application to the fabric.
• Vat dyes are used for coloring cellulosic fiber
  specially cotton fiber.

  denim product.

Solvent Dyes

• Solvent dyes are easily soluble in organic
  solvents.

  hydrocarbon fuels, waxes, lubricants, plastics

Naphthol Dyes

• The naphthol dyes are insoluble azo dyes that are
  produced for the application of the naphthol to
  fiber and combining it with diazotized base of
  salt, to produce an insoluble dye molecule within
  the fiber.
• The naphthol dyes produce excellent deep colors
  used in variety of dyeing processes.

Fast Bases

• The fast color bases are heavily used in textile
  industries.
• Significant savings on cost as compared to
  reactive dyes.
• The fastness element is a major factor
  contributing to their high demand.

Pigment Powders - Their Structure

• The anionic dyes have a sulphonic or carboxylic
  group in their structure while the cationic dyes
  have an amino or aminomethyl as the basic group
  and available as an acid salt.
• The structure is made up of the primary amine and
  an aromatic compound and these combinations will
  usually cover a wide range of colors.
