How To Stick Two Polycarbonate Sheets Together -
Tuflite Polymers
With the amazing properties that polycarbonate
possesses, like lightweight, durability,
flexibility, and ease of installation, it has
become one of the most preferred materials for
residential and commercial roofs. So, if you are
also looking to install polycarbonate for your
roof, you can get in touch with Tuflite Polymers
where you can choose from a variety of
polycarbonate roofing sheets to suit your
requirements.
However, if you need to glue two polycarbonate
pieces together, you need to know the right
procedure. It isn't as simple as applying regular
solvents on both the surfaces and sticking them
together. There is a proper method of fusing that
you need to apply on your sheets to have them
adhered strongly and for longer. Using regular
solvents to glue two polycarbonates together
will craze the material. Crazing is the
appearance of hundreds of tiny little cracks both
on and underneath the surface when the bond that
holds the materials together is damaged or
broken. However, the cracks are not for real, and
thus cannot be felt. But, the appearance will be
so and you definitely don't want such an
appearance for your structure, no matter how
strongly your polycarbonate can still hold the
load.

Which materials are required to fuse two
polycarbonates together? The only material
required to fuse your polycarbonates is Methylene
Chloride. But, to prepare your sheets for
gluing, you need lukewarm water, soapy water (of
the same temperature as the lukewarm water), a
sponge/gentle cloth, and a dry clean gentle
cloth. Now, let us learn the complete procedure
of fusing two polycarbonates together. Preparing
the sheets We all know how a surface needs to be
clean and free from dirt to have the glue stick
properly and effectively on it. Therefore, you
need to prepare your sheets by cleaning them
thoroughly before you begin the procedure of
gluing. For this, you will first have to rinse
your sheets with lukewarm water, and then in
soapy water. Once washed thoroughly, you must
wipe them with a gentle cloth or sponge, in the
direction of the grain. Then, rinse it again with
water and then dry it off with another gentle
cloth. NOTE - Don't use a sponge, cloth, or
anything else with a rough surface, or the sheet
will blemish. Also, make sure to use a mild
soap, and not harsh chemicals. Gluing the
sheets NOTE - Choose a well-ventilated area to
begin your procedure, as Methylene Chloride is
toxic, and the fumes can be harmful. Start gluing
your sheets only after they are completely dry.
Begin by applying only a small trail of
Methylene Chloride along the edge of the sheet
you wish to fuse. Give your adhesive some time
to soak into the sheet enough for it to become
slightly sticky before placing the edge
directly onto the surface of the other sheet,
where you would like it to bond. Now, hold the
sheets carefully in place such that both the
surfaces remain in constant contact. Apply a
small amount of pressure on the sheets to help
form a stronger bond. But, don't use too hard a
pressure or it may result in a weaker bond, or
cause the two sheets to come apart. Once the
sheets are capable of supporting themselves on
their own, leave them to dry for at least 48
hours. There! You have strongly bonded
polycarbonate roofing sheets, ready to be used.
