  • Baldness is something we dread especially when we
are still in our 20s and 30s. Lifestyle and
genetic factors may lead to early hair loss.
Although medicines and supplements help to
control or delay the process they too will fail
after a certain point of time especially for
those who started to care about it too late.
Medical science doesnt let you give up and comes
to your rescue here too hair transplant.
  • To understand how hair transplant works we have
to understand why hair loss happens
  • Hair growth is caused by follicles which are
located beneath our skin. The size of our hair
grows as cells are added to the base of these
follicles. Hair fall is a part of the natural
process and they fall off from their follicles.
However, a new hair replaces the old fallen hair
which continues to grow again. Take an example,
women pluck their eyebrows but they grow back
after a certain time. It is because the follicles
are present within and a new hair will come up in
    place of the removed hair.
  • Permanent hair loss can be caused by different
reasons such as a major trauma of the skin which
leaves a scar tissue without any follicles. When
there are no follicles there will be no hair
growth. Another reason which happens to be the
most common one is that the follicles stop
growing hair. They are present under your skin
but they wont grow hair. This is because a
hormone known as Dihydrotestosterone blocks the
work of the follicles. This condition is known as
alopecia. Both men and women can suffer from this
condition but it is more common in men and
medical science offers hair transplant for both.

  • How Does Hair Transplant Work?
  • When we speak about hair transplant it is not
just the hair that is taken from the donor area
but it is the healthy follicles that are placed
on top of the bald spot. Male patients tend to
have a safe zone on their heads which is the
sides and the back from where the follicles can
be taken, this area is known as the donor zone.
Hair transplant is generally of two types FUE and
FUT. Both have their own advantages and
processes. An experienced dermatologist is the
best person to decide which type or hair
transplantation treatment would best suit you.
Here is how the mentioned type of hair
    transplantations work
  • FUT or Follicular Unit Transplantation is also
referred to as the strip procedure. In this case
strips of tissue are removed from the donor area
which is further cut into single follicular
units. The surgeon places these individual grafts
in the tiny holes made on the scalp. The strip
removed from the donor area is stitched and
leaves a scar which takes some time to heal.
  • FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction is more
advanced than the FUE method. Here the surgeon
extracts just one follicular unit and places on
the bald spot. Since there are no strips
extracted there are no scars left. In the FUE
method, the healing time is very less.

  • Although FUE is more advanced FUT is also advised
by many surgeons. This is because more hair can
be harvested in this process which can help in
covering a larger area of the bald spot.
  • In both the cases, the surgeons follow a certain
pattern while placing the hair so when the hair
grows it blends with the remaining hair on the
    scalp naturally.
  • After a few weeks of the surgery, the
transplanted hair will shed and fall. It takes
usually between 3-4 months to see hair re-growth
in the transplanted areas. You can have full hair
anywhere between 9-12 months. Women may have to
wait longer to see complete results.
