Title: Three Types of Chemical Peels

Three Types of Chemical Peels
  • Chemical peels are a great way to
revitalize and refresh the skin. Many
people use chemical peels to reverse the
signs of aging. For people suffering from
blemishes, acne scarring and sun damage a
chemical peel serves as a solution. There
are many different types of chemical peels.
Which chemical peel is best is dependent on the
need of the client. Below is some helpful
information about which type of chemical peel a
    client may need.
  • Light Chemical Peel
  • A light chemical peel or Glycolic Acid Peel is
generally for people that have mild skin
condition. The peel is made of glycolic acid that
is found naturally in sugar cane, depending on
the needs of the clients other ingredients are
added. Light chemical peels can be done on
the whole face or just spot treatment for
problem areas. The whole process usually takes
less than an hour and clients have little to no
    recovery time.
  • The light chemical peel benefits clients with
mild acne scarring and sun damage. The peel
removes the outermost layer of skin and leaves
behind the layers that are less likely to have
damage. The exfoliation process encourages the
skin to produce more elastin and collagen
creating a tighter more vibrant look in the end.
  • Medium Chemical Peel
  • A medium chemical peel or Trichloroacetic Peel is
best for people with blemishes, scars, uneven
pigment or darkness under the eyes. This
chemical peel is more intense than a light
chemical peel but requires less recovery time
than a deep chemical peel. The benefits of
a medium chemical peel are improved texture
    and tone to the skin.
  • The process for a medium chemical peel
includes cleaning the skin, applying the
chemical peel, letting the peel sit, washing
the peel off and applying ointment to
help soothe the skin. It is recommended to
consult with a doctor before doing a medium
chemical peel. For best results this peel should
be done in a series of treatments.
  • Deep Chemical Peel
  • A deep chemical peel also known as a phenol peel
is the most strenuous peel. Deep chemical peels
are only recommended for clients that have severe
skin conditions. Clients with darker skin or
freckles should not get a deep chemical peel as
it will have lasting damaging effects. The deep
chemical peel is made of carbolic acid and should
be not be done more than once a year. Due to the
strength of the chemicals this peel should be
done on the whole face, this is unlike
the medium and light chemical peels which
    only required spot treatments.
  • The recovery of the deep chemical peel is long
results typically take 10 days or more to be
seen. In order to get the deep chemical peel
clients must be sedated and the whole procedure
    will take over an hour.
