Title: Characteristics of vinyl flooring

1
Characteristics of Vinyl Flooring
2
  •  Vinyl flooring is the best choice as it is long
lasting and the price is affordable. Vinyl
flooring can even be used in kitchens, bathrooms
and basements etc. Vinyl flooring has gained
popularity in the recent times not just because
it is affordable and durable but because there is
a wide range of selection when it comes to
    designs and colors.

3
Advantages of vinyl flooring
  • Low cost and long lasting
  • Easy to maintain
  • Moisture resistant
  • Good option for bathrooms and kitchens.
  • Usable in heavy traffic areas and commercial
    buildings
  • Comfortable underfoot
  • Provides good insulation.

4
Disadvantages of vinyl flooring
  • Cannot be refinished or polished
  • Can look dull after some wear and tear
  • Sensitive to sunlight
  • Can easily fade or crack

5
  • Vinyl flooring comes in two kinds. One is in the
form of sheets and the other is tiles. Here you
can find the difference between these two and the
pro and cons of each type of vinyl flooring.
  • The sheet vinyl is otherwise known as printed
vinyl and the tile vinyl is known as inlaid
    vinyl.
  • The sheet vinyl is cheaper than the tile vinyl
but not very durable. The tile vinyl is thicker
and is more expensive, durable and can be used
for residential or commercial purposes. Below you
can find the characteristics of sheet vinyl and
    tile vinyl.

6
Characteristics of sheet vinyl
  • Cost When compared to tiles, sheet vinyl costs
less because they are produced in large rolls
without using much labor to cut the material, due
to this there is not much of wastage. It is up to
the owner of the home to get the cutting done
    according to the required size.
  • Water resistant The biggest advantage of sheet
vinyl is that it is resistant to water and
moisture when compared to any other kind of
flooring. This is because it is usually laid
without having grooves, unlike tiles. Basically
there are no joints that allow water to seep in
    and damage the sub-floor.

7
  • Design Sheet vinyl, unlike tiles comes in a
variety of patterns, colors and designs you think
of. Whatever the design you need, can be
inscribed on the sheet vinyl. This printed
surface is used as the covering and is installed
directly into the desired room. With solid tiles
    this cannot be possible.

8
Characteristics of tile vinyl
  • Changeable In the case of sheet vinyl, if a
small damage or stain occurs the only option one
has, is to remove the entire sheet or remove a
part of the sheet and replace it with a patch.
This patch can look like a sore spot to your
flooring and disrupt the pattern and the color of
    your floor.
  • But in the case of tile vinyl, if there is any
sort of damage, one can simply remove the tiles
and replace it with a new one. Removing a vinyl
tile is easy and once the job is done, no one can
    make out the difference.

9
  • Variety of options Sheet vinyl gives you the
actual product, whereas tile vinyl allows the end
users to use their creativity and come up with
their own design. Tile vinyl gives you the
flexibility to create your own designs depending
on the colors and the contrasts that suit your
taste and décor. You can cut individual tiles in
to the desired shapes and get your intended
designs. One has to lay out the picture of the
design of your floor before you start cutting up
    pieces and wasting material.

10
  • Installation is easy Installing vinyl sheets can
be a tough job as you will need to take perfect
measurements cut the sheets properly for them to
fit in to your room. A small mistake can cause a
    lot of wastage of material.
  • Tile vinyl installation is comparatively easy and
the job can be done by first time DIYers as well
in a day or two. Each tile has to be laid in a
straight line. Any mistake wont result in a vast
    damage.

11
  • Practical The main reason why tile vinyl is
chosen is that it can mimic a variety of other
flooring options that are higher in price, like
hardwood, stone and ceramic tiles. When tile
vinyl is used you have the opportunity to apply
grout in between two tiles giving it a more
natural look. With sheet vinyl that is not
    possible.
  • If your choice for your flooring is vinyl, you
have to take in to consideration the type of
vinyl and its cost constraints. If you are
looking for high traffic areas like schools,
offices or malls your best option is to have
inlaid tiles. Sheet vinyl is best used in low
traffic areas like bedrooms and baths. You are
looking for easy installation then vinyl tiles
are the way to go, but if you want something with
low cost then vinyl sheets are the best idea.
