How Does Fortis Combat Stroke

Description:

Stroke is a brain attack caused by the interruption of the blood supply to any part of the brain. When blood flow is denied to the brain for longer than a few seconds and the brain is deprived of blood and oxygen, brain cells can die, and the abilities controlled by that area of the brain are lost. The onset of ischemic stroke which restricts blood and oxygen flow to the brain, can damage 1.9 million nerve cells every second. • F.A.S.T Fortis Acute Stroke Treatment is a
    comprehensive protocol based treatment facility
for Acute ischemic stroke (brain paralysis)
patients who come to us within the Golden
Period i.e around 4-6 hrs of the stroke.
    Intravenous thrombolysis, intra-arterial
thrombolysis or mechanic evacuation of the clot
is done to minimize the damage caused by the
blocked blood vessels in the Brain.
  • The FAST program is a team work between the ER
    ,Critical care Team, Neurologist, Radiologist,
    Neurosurgeon and the Neuro-interventionist
ensuring a 247 care and initiating Thrombolytic
(Clot busting) treatment of eligible stroke
    patients as fast as possible.
  • A standardized protocol based action pathway is
followed from the time patients enter the triage
till he receives the treatment, to reduce the
door to needle time for maximum treatment
    benefit.

  • What is a stroke?
  • Stroke is a brain attack caused by the
interruption of the blood supply to any part of
the brain. When blood flow is denied to the brain
for longer than a few seconds and the brain is
deprived of blood and oxygen, brain cells can
die, and the abilities controlled by that area of
the brain are lost. The onset of ischemic stroke
which restricts blood and oxygen flow to the
brain, can damage 1.9 million nerve cells every
    second.

  • Head or neck trauma increases the chance of
ischemic stroke three fold among patients younger
than 50. If the stroke is detected early,
effective treatment could be given in time to
    prevent long term disabilities.
  • How to identify a stroke attack-
  • Muscular paralysis with weak muscles, problems
with coordination, stiff muscles, weakness of one
side of the body, overactive reflexes, or
paralysis of one side of the body
  • Whole body balance disorder, fatigue,
    light-headedness, or vertigo
  • Visual blurred vision, double vision, sudden
visual loss, or temporary loss of vision in one
    eye

  • Speech difficulty speaking, slurred speech, or
    speech loss
  • Sensory pins and needles or reduced sensation of
    touch.
  • Facial muscle weakness or numbness.
  • Limbs numbness or weakness.
  • Also common difficulty swallowing, headache,
    inability to understand, limping, mental
confusion, or rapid involuntary eye movement.

  • Understanding the emergency aspect of stroke-
  • Effects of a stroke can be reversed and patients
can live a full life thereafter by recognizing
the symptoms quickly and providing proper medical
care to the patients within 4½ hours (window
period). When the condition is diagnosed early,
the prognosis is usually good and necessary brain
surgeries and related complications can be
    avoided.
  • What we need to understand here is that a life
can be saved if prompt action is taken and the
patient is rushed to a hospital which is ready
and capable to treat stroke immediately. There
should be 247 service with protocols laid down
    to handle such emergency situations.
