Though stainless steel has a natural ability for
self- passivation, there occur some situations
when steel is exposed to a natural environmental
situation. That situation brings it sufficient
oxygen to encourage corrosion after some time.
This condition is not good for the longevity of
the metal.

The situation can be improved by the processes of
passivation and pickling. These two are the
trusted ways to improve the natural properties of
the metal. Though many acidic combinations work
well for the same, Nitric Acid is trusted by many
industries. Before trying the steel passivation
with Nitric Acid, the manufacturers need to
decide if the process is necessary at all or not.

To start process of Nitric Acid Passivation, the
mechanics need to remove the scales first. They
do it easily with the special technique called
pickling. The process is also termed as
mechanical abrasion. It takes some time as
removing the scales if often a tough task. The
process often includes hydrofluoric/Nitric acid
mixtures. However, there are some differences
here.

Passivation need to make sure that all pollutants
or contaminants are removed completely before
applying Nitric Acid. It is capable of cleaning
or removing iron contamination from the surface.
