Title: Types Of Pipe Fittings - Sheridan Supply
1 Different Types Of Pipe Fittings
2What Is Fitting?
- Fittings are generally used to connect straight
pipe or tubing sections in pipe systems, it is
used for other purposes also, such as regulating
the fluid flow in the pipes or tubes. Fitting
plays a major role in the reliability and
durability of any piping and plumbing systems.
The type of pipe fitting required depends on the
installation or repair.
3Types Of Fitting
- There are different types of fitting used for
piping and plumbing systems. The most common are
listed below - PVC
- Forged Steel
- Brass
- Copper
- Flanges
- Nipples
- Weld
- Black Cast Iron(BCI)
- Black Malleable Iron(BMI)
4 PVC PVC fittings are used for residential and
commercial sanitary systems. Due to its excellent
rigidity, corrosion and chemical resistance
properties, it is also used in many chemical
related areas.
Forged Steel Forged steel is an alloy of carbon
and iron that is compressed under extreme
pressure to make a very hard and strong
substance. Modern forged steel is conducted
using specialized machines or hydraulic hammers.
Brass Brass is an alloy of copper that
incorporates zinc as an alloying element. Brass
is widely used in plumbing applications, and most
pipe fittings are available in brass, due to its
exceptional qualities like rust-resistance,
hardness, durability and flexibility.
5 Copper Copper fittings are one of the widely
used fittings for plumbing applications. These
copper pipe fittings are used for many different
connection types. There are elbows,
street-elbows, tees, couplings, slip couplings,
caps, threaded adapters, and threaded
street-adapters.
Flanges Flanges are a disc-like fitting that
create a tight seal by pressing two surfaces
together with clamps, bolts, edges, or a
compressive force. These fittings are used to
attach different accessories to the pipe. They
can also increase the strength of pipe.
Nipples A nipple is a fitting that is used to
connect two other fittings. It is a fitting with
two male-threaded ends. It consist of a short
piece of pipe, usually provided with a male pipe
thread at each end.
6Weld Weld fittings are used in any industrial or
high-purity applications for the connection or
joining two other fittings. Weld fittings
comprises of elbows, reducers, caps and tees etc.
BCI BMI Black cast iron and black malleable
iron are also known as gray cast iron. These two
metals differ with their carbon content,
formation, advantages and disadvantages.
