  • King Cobra is longest venomous snake in reptile
    family. It is also known as King of Jungle as it
    has fearsome reputation.
  • They usually found in India and southeast Asia.
  • It preys on snakes, lizards, rodents etc and
    avoids humans when possible.

  • The average size of King cobra is 3-4 m in
    length. The longest snake was kept at London Zoo,
    it was 18.5 to 18.8 ft. The average heaviest
    weighted snake noted was 12.7 kg
  • Although, they are of large sizes, still they are
    fast and agile.
  • It lives in dense highland forests with
    preferring areas like lakes and streams.

  • A king cobra, like other snakes, receives
    chemical information via its forked tongue which
    picks sensory signals. When scent of meal is
    detected, snake uses its tongue to find the prey
    location, it also uses its eyesight
  • They detect moving prey almost 100 m away.

  • The venom consists of neurotoxins such as
    haditoxin, intraperitoneal etc. A bite can
    deliver 200-500 mg venom.
  • The toxins affect the victim's  nervous system
    with blurred vision and even paralysis. Moreover,
    also causes Cardiovascular collapse
  • King cobras are like to hunt throughout the
    daytime and will not like to hunt at night
  • When King Cobra can bite a human, the human can
    die in 30 minutes, if not treated immediately.
  • King Cobra single bite can capable to killing a
    big elephant.
