What do we mean by PCOS?
  • PCOS- Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is one of the
common problems that lead to infertility in a
    woman today.
  • It is also known as the Stein Leventhal Syndrome,
where cysts are formed in or on the outside of
the ovaries. The cysts may occur in one ovary or
    both of them.
  • This disease causes many problems in a woman if
    not detected and effectively treated

3
The Cysts in PCOS
  • PCOS are generally formed due to a hormonal
imbalance in the body. They can develop in any
other part of the body, but in the case of
infertility, they develop in the ovaries
  • They come about in cases of high insulin levels
in the body, high male hormones in a woman.
  • They are liquid-filled sacs that can only be seen
    through an Ultrasound.
  • It is an endocrine disorder that many women are
unaware of yet a big threat to many

4
How the Cysts are formed
  • Estrogen and Progesterone are some of the
hormones needed for ovulation. Once these
hormones are low or out of balance, male hormones
    like testosterone are increased.
  • Together with this male hormone (androgen) there
is the formation of more cysts in the ovaries.
  • The actual cause of the cysts formation in the
ovaries is unknown, but doctors largely entail it
    to hormonal imbalances

5
Other possible causes of PCOS
  • As the actual cause is not yet known, the
following are taken to be the source.
  • Genetics- PCOS may run through the family blood.
  • Infection of the reproductive organ.

clinic with the help of a reputed gynecologist.
The hardest part of PCOS in women is that it
leads to infertility due to the interrupted

end into having an IVF treatment in case a woman
has completely failed to respond to treatment.
  • There is no exact cure for PCOS.
