Basics of Marching Bands

The marching band is a term given to musicians,
dance teams, or color guard members that play
woodwinds, percussion or brass instruments while
adding marching with their performance. They wear
costumes consisting of the school's or
organization name or symbols as part of the
uniform are worn. Size, function, and style of
their performance are the parameters to
differentiate marching bands. Apart from
performing in indoor concerts that apply the
traditions and flair from outside performances,
they usually perform in parades which are
outdoors. Unique events such as band
competitions, especially during sporting events
also witness their performance.

From the troops of wandering musicians those have
performed at functions, celebrations, or
festivals throughout the world in ancient times
have originated the marching band show music.
After emergence of different states, named
"Military Bands" bands with names pertaining to
certain areas came into prominence. This is the
main reason why many marching bands still wear
costumes similar to military outfit.
