4 Activities That Lead to Teeth Cleaning on a
Routine Dental Checkup
2
Even the most simple of dental checkups may seem
to involve hearing strange machine noises and
someone working inside your mouth that can cause
a lot of apprehension and stress. The visit does
look a whole complicated process, but in reality
the worries is not for patients to take.
Therefore, its better to know how a routine
dental visit goes till the point of teeth
cleaning as it will reduce any fears and anxiety
you may have.
3
Hello to Receptionist
Just like as you would visit any other office and
the first person who comes to acknowledge you is
the receptionist. The receptionist will be
concerned of checking your appointments
schedule, making payments, taking out your case
file, calling you on your turn, etc.
4
Meet a Hygienist or a Certified Dental Assistant
(CDA)
Next you will meet with a hygienist or a dental
assistant with whom you will be spending quite
some time. Meeting with either of them depends on
your case as there is a significant difference
between the jobs of two professionals.
5
  • Hygienists take care of some routine dental work
    including regular cleanings, and assisting
    dentist in other tasks.
  • Dental Assistants are mostly concerned with
preparing the treatments and also helping the
    dentist in other procedures.

6
Your Medical History
Before the actual treatment starts, the hygienist
will question you some things such as Is this
your first appointment for a treatment? If no,
how long have you been under dental examinations?
Are you taking some medications or have any sort
of health conditions such as diabetes, blood
diseases, arthritis, pregnancy, allergies, etc.
These questions sum up to create your medical
history which will be sent for examination. The
medical history helps the dentist in determining
whether you are fit to undergo a particular
dental treatment or not.
7
Teeth Cleaning
Now that your medical history file is complete,
the team will start working inside your mouth by
cleaning your teeth thoroughly. The cleaning
starts by the dentist brushing off any built-up
plaque and tartar on and below the gum line, then
flossing each tooth all around thoroughly to
remove any leftover food particles.
8
The cleaning stage will conclude by applying a
spinning tooth polisher and a slightly abrasive
paste in order to install a smooth and shiny
finish on your teeth. The polisher is concerned
about removing any residue that may have been
missed before leaving your teeth smoother and
making it difficult for plaque to grow on your
teeth till the next visit to the dentist.
