Step 1 Form of Business
  • To start any business you must choose any entity.
  • Startups mostly choose Private Limited Company
    and Proprietorship
  • You may decide to choose any form based on merits
    and demerits

Step 2 Type of Exporter
  • This decision is not a difficult one to take.
    There are two types of exporters Merchant
    exporter and Manufacturer Exporter
  • If you are a trader and exporting goods outside
    India, then you are amerchant exporter
  • In you manufacture and sell goods outside India,
    then you are a manufacturer exporter.

Step 3 Import Export Code (IEC)
  • No one can do import and export of goods with IEC
    in India
  • IEC is a PAN based registration, and can be
    applied online.
  • Once, you are registered with import export code,
    then you may proceed to next step.

Step 4 Export Promotional Councils
  • it is mandatory to register with export
    promotional council or with Commodity board of
    India.
  • This registration is needed to explore any export
    benefit provided by Government.
  • E.g. if you are doing business of coconuts, then
    you should register with Coconut Development
    Board (CDB).

Step 5 Inspection Certificate
  • As per Export (Quality and Inspection) Act, 1963,
    inspection certificate are mandatory.
  • The export inspectional council of India will
    help in getting the inspection certificates
  • Once inspection certificates are obtained, then
    freight forwarder is hired.

Step 6 Get a Freight Forwarder
  • They are the ticketing agents for cargo system
  • You need to decide the mode of shipment like air,
    sea, land.
  • Also get a quote from them which will be based on
    Mode of shipment, destination port and volume of
    shipment.

Step 7 File Performa Invoice
  • PI is sent by the exporter to the buyer outside
    India.
  • PI contains all the relevant details like
    quality, goods description, Mode of payment etc.
  • Once PI is approved by the buyer, export order is
    confirmed and exporter shall proceed to next
    step.

Step 8 Commercial Invoice
  • Commercial invoice is like a normal sales
    invoice.
  • Commercial invoice is issued once order is
    confirmed by the buyer.
  • Commercial invoice is issued by exporter to the
    buyer. Now, the export proceeding will take
    place.

Step 9 AD Code Registration
  • AD stands for Authorised dealer.
  • AD code registration is done with any schedule
    bank in India
  • AD code helps to check whether export proceeds
    have been realized or not.

Step 10 Shipping Instruction
  • Depending upon the nature of goods, shipping
    instruction are issued by Freight Forwarder.
  • This has to be done in accordance with
    international conventions.
  • Nature of goods may be hazardous, perishable etc.

Step 11 File Packing List (PL)
  • Packing list contains the item wise packing
    contents
  • It help the authorities to know what lies within
    the packing.
  • Custom authorities may check the sample to verify
    the packing list

Step 12 Shipping Bill
  • Shipping bill maybe generated through online IEC
    GATE of Custom authorities.
  • It is generated when PL, commericla invoice and
    other documents are submitted.
  • After shipping bill is submitted, assessing
    officer will verify the exportability of goods.

Step 13 Let Export Order
  • Once, Assessing officer is satisfied about the
    goods and particulars of shipping bill.
  • He issues the Let Export Order (LEO), and goods
    become ready to be exported.
  • After LEO, goods are loaded.

Step 14 Loading of Goods
  • Shipping bill along with LEO is submitted to
    proper officer.
  • Goods are then loaded into vessel under the
    supervision of customs.
  • Once loading done, then bill of lading is
    generated

Step 15 Bill of Lading
  • The word lading is derived from the English word
    loading.
  • Bill of lading is generated when goods are
    properly loaded into the vessel.
  • Bill of lading is sent to buyer, so that he can
    claim the goods when vessel reaches his
    destination.

Step 16 Export General Manifest
Shipping lines has to submit a report within 7
days of sailing the words.   EGM is like a report
which contain all the information about the goods
dispatched.. The EGM is the final confirmation of
the physical export of the goods. It also helps
in claiming the export incentives.
