Title: Facelift Basic Introduction

1
Facelift
2
What Is A Facelift?
  • Rhytidectomy, more commonly known as a facelift,
is an elective cosmetic procedure that aims to
produce a more youthful facial appearance.
  • A facelift is achieved by tightening the skin and
underlying muscles and tissues of the face,
    effectively addressing wrinkles, folds, jowls,
    droops and sags.
  • A facelift can make patients appear 10-15 years
    younger!

3
What Does A Facelift Address?
  • Facelift addresses aesthetic concerns in the
middle of the face and neck, including
  • Drooping and sagging skin on the face and neck
  • Creases underneath the nose, along the sides of
the mouth, and underneath the lower eyelids
  • Fleshy, dropping jowls on the lower cheeks
  • Fatty deposits, displaced fat and loose skin
beneath the jaw, resulting in a double chin
  • Drooping and/or wrinkling around the eyes can be
treated with an eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty.

4
Facelift Effectiveness
  • Skin quality (texture, pigmentation, elasticity)
plays a role in determining facelift
    effectiveness.
  • The condition of the skin is an important factor
in achieving the best facelift results.
Generally, the sooner you start with your first
facelift, the better the long-term results.
  • An ideal facelift candidate is in good health and
has realistic expectations of the results he or
she will be able to achieve from a facelift
    procedure.

5
The Facelift Process
  • There are various face lift techniques performed
by cosmetic surgeons that may or may not be
suitable for your specific facial aging pattern.
  • The MACS facelift procedure is often chosen
because it provides excellent results with
    well-hidden scars.
  • Consult with your surgeon to understand the full
    process.

6
The MACS Facelift
  • MACS stands for Minimal Access Cranial Suspension
and is a very popular technique.
  • In a MACS facelift, incisions are made in front
of the ear, rather than behind, as in the SMAS
    lift.
  • Skin is lifted from the underlying tissues, fat
and muscles of the face, so they can be
    tightened.
  • The skin is then re-draped gently over the
tissues, producing a smoother and younger
    finish.

7
Facelift Recovery
  • Your facelift recovery will depend on the exact
    techniques utilized and procedure performed.
  • There may be some bruising, swelling and general
discomfort for the first several days.
  • Many patients are back to work and their usual
social lives in only one week!
  • Be sure to ask your facelift surgeon what to
expect for your recovery process and be prepared
to take the appropriate time off to fully heal
    and recovery following your procedure.

Facelift Results
  • While every facelift patient is different, here
are some samples of before and after results from
others who have undergone a facelift procedure

9
Choosing Your Facelift Surgeon
  • Selecting your facelift surgeon is arguably the
most important part of having a facelift. Here
are some tips to help you with choosing your
    doctor
  • Read reviews and testimonials online. Be sure to
look for quantity in addition to quality 5
stars from one person doesnt mean as much as 5
    stars from 20 people!
  • Look at before and after photos from previous
    surgeries.
  • Look for membership and accreditations from
    medical boards and societies.
  • Set up a consultation to ask all of your
questions, and evaluate the surgeon based on
    his/her answers.

10
  • If youre considering having a facelift, be sure
to read up and learn as much as you can about the
procedure so that you can have the best
experience and enjoy a great result!
  • Heres to your new, younger looking you!
