Title: How stress affects oral health

1
How stress affects oral health
2
Poor eating habits
  • When you are stressed and anxious, you may be
more likely to eat food that you crave for which
can be bad for the teeth. For instance, you may
indulge in fatty foods, sugary foods, sodas,
coffee and junk food. These unhealthy foods can
increase your risk of developing cavities and gum
disease, warns the dentist in Dubai.

3
Poor oral habits
  •  If you were someone who follows a good oral care
routine, you may find that stress and anxiety is
stopping you from practicing a good oral care
routine. Neglecting a good oral care routine that
includes, brushing and flossing, may lead to
tooth decay and the development of gum disease.

4
Bruxism
  •  When an individual clenches and grinds their
teeth, especially at night when they are asleep,
it is called bruxism. This condition can cause
permanent damage to the teeth such as chipping,
fracturing breakage and also wears down the
enamel. Bruxism also causes pressure on the
supporting tissues of the teeth, which can lead
to bone loss and cause damage to the jaw bone as
well. Clenching and grinding can also make the
jaw muscles painful and sore. It can be difficult
to bite and chew your food, and even opening and
closing your mouth can be painful.

5
Negative effect on the hormones
  • Stress and anxiety affect the hormone levels in
an individuals body. The only way that hormones
level can affect your teeth are when it reduces
the production of saliva. When your mouth is
frequently dry, it will harm your teeth with the
onset of plaque and the development of gum
disease. Hormones can also cause your immune
system to shut down, making you more prone to
    oral infection.

6
Canker sores
  • Stress can cause canker sores. Despite there
being various other reasons that cause canker
sores, the  issue originates in your immune
system. When stress prevents your immune system
from functioning normally, you may find these
    ulcers in your mouth.

7
Affects the bodys ability to heal
  •  If you have had any sort of dental treatment, it
may not heal well or be as effective as it
should, if you are coping with a lot of anxiety
and stress. A healthy body has the natural
ability to heal, but stress can impair the
    healing process.
