VLSM CIDR
  • The biggest challange in networking is getting to
know the boundaries of the network.
  • It is mandatory to know where IP address starts
    and ends in the network.
  • Variable Length Subnet Masking is a technique
that allows network administrators to divide an
IP address space to subnets of different sizes.
  • CIDR has replaced the classful network design.
  • VLSM/CIDR is a method of allocating IP addresses
    and routing Internet Protocol packets

Internet Protocol Version
  • There are two types of IP Addresses
  • IPV4 - It is the fourth version in the
development of the Internet Protocol (IP). It is
one of the core protocols of standards-based
    internetworking methods in the Internet.
  • It has three classes namely, Class A, B, C with
    different range of IP address.
  • IPV6 It is the most recently used IP address
across the internet. The communications protocol
that provides an identification and location
system for computers on networks and routes
    traffic across the Internet.
  • Compared to IPV4, IPV6 has larger address space
    with 128 bits.

Subnet Masks
  • A Subnet mask is a 32-bit number that masks an IP
address, and divides the IP address into network
    address and host address.
  • Subnet masks has been created for all three
    classes in IPV4.
  • Network bits for Subnet masks Class A ranges from
    8 to 30.
  • Network bits for Subnet masks Class B ranges from
    16 to 30.
  • Network bits Subnet masks Class C ranges from 24
    to 30.

IPV6
  • You can convert IP address from Version 4 to
    latest version 6.
  • IPV6 address are represented as eight groups and
each group is separated by a colon ().
  • You can compress and expand Internet Protocol
    Version 6 for your convenience.
