Understanding the Different Types of Dental
Bridges
2
When you dont need or want removable dentures or
dental implants, a dental bridge makes a good
alternative. This device hides the gap left by
your missing teeth while improving your oral
health and providing you with an attractive smile
at the same time. One of the most important
benefits of dental bridges is that they prevent
your remaining teeth from shifting into the open
spots. When this happens, it could have a
significant effect on the overall alignment of
your teeth.
3
The process of receiving new dental bridges
requires a minimum of two visits to Dr. Ala Din.
During the first appointment, he examines your
gums and jaw to make sure they are strong enough
to support the new dental bridge and the
replacement teeth attached to it. He also needs
to check the condition of the teeth that will
support the dental bridge. At your second
appointment, Dr. Din removes a small amount of
tooth enamel so that the bridge will remain
firmly attached to the supporting teeth. After
securing it in place, he attaches the replacement
teeth to it in order to conceal your missing
teeth.

Dental Bridge TypesAfter your initial
examination, Dr. Din will let you know which of
these types of bridges is most appropriate for
your situationCantilever Bridge Since a
Cantilever bridge can only attach to one other
tooth, its most appropriate to conceal missing
back teeth. Dr. Din may also use this type if
only one tooth surrounding the missing teeth is
healthy enough to support a bridge.
5
Fixed Bridge This type is the most durable and
widely used. It has a dental crown at each end
with the replacement teeth in the middle of them.
When placing a fixed bridge, Dr. Din typically
installs a dental crown over the teeth that will
support it.Resin-Bonded Bridge For this
procedure, Dr. Din places metal bands behind the
supporting teeth rather than dental crowns. Its
a good alternative for front teeth since these
are not large enough for a crown and Dr. Din
hides the metal bands behind the supporting teeth.
