CAREERS
?
TEACHING EDUCATION SECTOR A tremendous change
is sweeping education sector, one of the largest
of all professions in India. The primary reasons
for the change are (a) corporatisation of
education i.e., entry of companies big
industrial houses in school sector (b)
IT/computers in education (c) teaching abroad
gaining popularity (d) privatization of education
and entry of foreign institutions after
implementation of GATT.
?
SOCIAL WORK Social work which was earlier thought
of as a prerogative of few visionaries, is now
attracting a growing number of young people.
There are mainly two reasons for this change.
Firstly, there is an increasing awareness among
young people to work for the downtrodden.
Secondly, the job opportunities for social
workers are multiplying because of massive inflow
of funds for development programmes by NGOs, the
UN, corporates, and central and state governments.
?
STOCK MARKET Brokers/subbrokers buy and sell
shares on behalf of their clients. They might
work independently, or with business houses,
broking firms, investment banks and also
traditional banks.Fund managers manage money for
the public (mutual funds) or even large
corporates. They take decisions on where to
invest and what strategy to follow for the fund.
They are assisted by analysts who try to make
predictions of the companys future based on its
past and present financial status.
?
TRAVEL TOURISM Remember the last holiday, when
you went to a hill station or a beach resort? It
was your dad (or mom) who got all the
reservations (rail, air, hotel, sight seeing etc)
done. Now think of being on the other side i.e.,
you organize everything for individuals/groups
who want to travel. If you are enthused, then
read on. The government departments formulate
policy, select and develop tourist destinations,
plan travel facilities, publicise the
destinations and provide relevant information to
tourists. In the private sector, one can start
working as a trainee after doing an IATA
recognised qualification and then build up ones
career.
?
MEDICAL Years ago medical diagnosis depended on
the doctors judgment. But now you have the
latest diagnostic equipment and computers.
Prevention and control of diseases have
revolutionised the healthcare sector. Though the
times have changed, the word doctor still
commands respect. After XII in PCB, one goes for
MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of
Surgery) and thereafter internship. Many MBBS
graduates go
3
for post graduation specialising in surgery,
medicine, gynecology, dermatology, paediatrics,
psychiatry, ophthalmology, pathology etc.
Alternative careers like hospital administration,
bioinformatics, genetic engineering, nutritional
science are also available after MBBS.
?
MASS COMMUNICATION Would you like to do a TV show
and reach out to the millions, hobnob with
glamorous personalities, write for newspapers,
work for news websites? If the answer is yes,
you are welcome to the world of mass
communication. Three major sectors of mass
communication are viz. print medium (newspaper
and magazines), visual medium(Film and
Television) and the audio medium. The Internet is
the latest on the scene. You ask so many
questions that friends have started hiding from
you (Questioning skills), you have prying eyes
(Inquisitiveness) and you are on stage all the
time compering events and are considered next to
Arundhati Roy in writing skills (Communication
Skills) you can be very successful in the world
of Mass Comm.
?
MATHEMATICS If you love playing around with
numbers and your nickname is calculator,
consider Mathematics as a serious career.
Mathematics is rapidly becoming the language of
all the sciences physical, biological and
social. Subjects like computer science,
environmental science economics, business
administration and psychology are increasingly
using statistical methods, linear programming and
other mathematical technology.
?
MANAGEMENT You are good at organising activities,
like to work in a team, are seen as a dependable
person and have high energy levels. Then, look at
management as a career option. Management implies
the qualities of leadership and the capacity to
motivate people to work in order to achieve
clearly defined objectives. It involves taking
decisions based on innumerable economic and other
factors. Certain decisions affect employees while
others do not. Planning, scheduling, decision
making, controlling, etc., require information
whereas evaluation of technical, economic and
other factors makes management techniques
important.
?
LAW
If you like proving your point, then why not
choose a career where you do it all the time. Law
is an emerging career option and individuals have
started focusing on specialized areas like
insurance, cyber law, intellectual property law,
international law, etc. Law has been one of the
most important social institutions. You can
practice in subordinate courts, administrative
tribunals, high courts and the Supreme Court.
Their practice pertains mainly to private
matters, and public matters.
4
? NUTRITION DIETITIAN You can be part of the
noble medical profession without going through
the lengthy MBBS. If you opt to become a
nutritionist and dietician, you can assist
patients, prevent and treat illnesses by
promoting healthy eating habits and recommending
dietary modifications.

TESTIMONIALS
Harish Chaudhary Professor, IIT Delhi I have
known Jitin over the last decade or so and have
found him to be a brilliant and dedicated person
.His envious educational background and his deep
insights into human behaviour make him a true
professional. He brings with him a unique blend
of domain understanding and an ability to
identify a childs passions and talents and has
thus put a very large number of children on the
path of success. Equipped with latest
psychometric tools and a continuously updated
knowledge base on the upcoming professions, he is
able to beautifully match the childs ambitions,
skills and competencies with market
opportunities. I strongly recommend that we must
give our children the gift of professional advice
from the best person in domain. Clearly Jitin is
the best.
