ENERGY AND POWER MARKET RESEARCH
Energy is the oxygen of the economy and is a
crucial component of economic development of any
country. Energy is an input to nearly every good
and service in the economy. The demand for
electricity was expected to grow at a rapid pace
across the world. The major source of power
generation includes coal, oil, lignite, nuclear
and hydro power, wind, solar, agriculture
domestic waste and natural gas. The requirement
for energy in todays world and its continuous
challenges make energy and power sector a
consistently hot market for growth and
opportunities.
PROMINENT SEGMENTS
  • Renewable Energy
  • Utilities
  • Portable Power Supplies
  • Oil and Gas Exploration
  • Hydro Power
  • Nuclear Power
  • Alternative Fuels
  • Energy Management
  • Supercapacitors
  • Wind Energy

CURRENT SCENARIO
The world is increasingly aware that fundamental
changes will be necessary to meet the growing
demand for energy. Sustainable energy policies
are more likely to succeed if they also
contribute toward other societal and economic
development objectives. Governments should look
across policies to maximize positive synergies
where they exist and avoid creating cost-cutting
incentives.
3
TOTAL PRIMARY ENERGY CONSUMPTION
Total Primary Energy Consumption is derived from
Petroleum, Natural gas, Coal, Electricity and
Renewables. Asia Pacific is the largest consumer
of Energy with 202.119 Quadrillion Btu in 2014.

GLOBAL ENERGY TRENDS
World energy demand grows in all WEO scenarios,
but government policies play a powerful role in
dictating the pace of the growth and the degree
to which greenhouse-gas emissions follow the same
path. The worlds appetite for electricity lifts
demand by more than 70 by 2040, and there is a
concerted effort to reduce the environmental
consequences of power generation.
Renewables based generation reaches 50 in the
European Union by 2040, around 30 in China and
Japan, and above 25 in the United States and
India. Coals share of total electricity
generation drops to 30 in 2040, and the output
from inefficient sub-critical plants decline by
45. Around 550 million people in the world
remain without any access to electricity in 2040
the majority of them in sub-Saharan Africa.
Energy trade relationships continue to be
rewritten, with Asia the final destination for
80 of regionally traded coal, 75 of oil and 60
of natural gas in 2040. China becomes the worlds
largest oil importer before 2020 and India the
second-largest oil importer around 2035.
According to International Energy Agency (IEA),
world energy sector investment is expected to
reach 68 trillion by 2040, of which 37 is in
oil and gas supply, 29 in power supply and 32
in end-use efficiency. Among the power generation
capacity investment in the new policies scenario,
more than 60 goes to renewables, led by China,
the European Union, the United States and India.

Market Research Consulting
PORTERS FIVE FORCES ANALYSIS - ENERGY POWER
Bargaining power of suppliers
  • Many firms are vertically integrated, not a
    factor
  • Inputs have little impact on costs

Low-Moderate
Low
Threat of substitutes
Threat of new entrants
Competitive rivalry
  • Energy does not have substitute but it can be
    generated from different sources.
  • Extraordinary Start-Up Costs
  • Economies of Scale take
  • time to be realized
  • Strong distribution network required
  • Fast industry growth rate
  • Government policies limit competition

Moderate
High
  • Market Demand is a primary factor in setting
    prices.
  • Consumers are individual buyers in large
populations giving no individual bargaining power

Low
Bargaining power of buyers
