Title: How to upgrade RAM on your PC

1
HOW TO UPGRADE RAM ON YOUR PC ?
  • Learn how to increase memory of your PC to the
    required storage amount

2
A BRIEF OVERVIEW
  • Memory is a critical aspect of your PC,
especially when it is performing demanding tasks
(which is quite often). Faster and larger stores
of RAM can go a long way in making your PC
    perform better consistently. Moreover,
installation of some additional RAM helps in
    speeding up your PC.

3
WHAT IS MEMORY UPGRADATION?
  • Memory upgradation is a type of hardware upgrade.
    It involves installing additional memory(RAM)
into your PC. This is done to speed up and
    improve systems performance.

4
IMPORTANCE OF MEMORY UPGRADATION
  • A memory upgrade is very important for your PC
    for the following reasons.
  • Large programs like Word and Excel need more
    memory
  • More RAM eliminates the need to delete
    programs, to increase storage space
  • A memory upgrade would prevent slowing down of
    your PC
  • Moreover, the OS would also require a
    significant amount of space

5
HOW MUCH MEMORY IS NEEDED?
  • Every PC comes with a minimum of 4GB RAM which is
not enough since a lot more is done than just
taking backup or guarding against malware. A
minimum of 8GB is required for a modern-day
desktop PC. In order to secure the future of your
PC, a 16GB RAM is recommended.

6
DIFFERENT TYPES OF RAM
  • There are different types of RAM. Most PCs use
DDR3 memory, but older systems may require DDR2
or even DDR. A small segment of high-end PCs now
use DDR4 memory, and in another few years the
industry will most likely standardize on it. But
for now, DDR3 rules the market.

7
THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING RAM
  • Memory type Go for DDR3 memory or if you can
    afford it, for DDR4
  • Speed and Capacity Speed of the RAM and
    capacity of the memory kit
  • Brand Go for brands like Corsair, Kingston,
    KLEW, PNY, Mushkin etc
  • Appearance and Price Choose a RAM that strikes
a balance between its appearance and the price
    offered by the manufacturer

8
INSTALLING RAM IN YOUR PC
  • Shut down your computer
  • Unplug all of the cables connected to it
  • Remove the side of the computer case, for
    accessing the motherboard
  • Look for the RAM slots adjacent to the CPU
    socket
  • Locate the big heat sink at the top of the
    motherboard
  • Look for two to four memory slots next to it

9
INSTALLING RAM IN YOUR PC (contd.)
  • Remove the old kit by toggling the plastic
retention clips at either end of the memory slots
  • Before installing the new RAM, make sure the
    memory module is correctly oriented
  • Now that you have seated the RAM in the slot,
toggle the plastic retention levers to lock your
    new memory modules in place
  • Finally, close up your computer case, plug
everything back in, and turn on your computer
