A CBI inquiry has been sought by members of
Fishermen United Front into the illegal beach
sand mining. Director Secretary of the Front, A.
Subash Fernando quoted that the coastal
population had little faith in the inquiry team
set up by CM Jayalalitha.

The low faith shown by Fishermen United Front in
judiciary is yet unclear. Vaikundarajan, chairman
of VV Minerals India, has also been accused of
having political relations with the CM. While
there is no evidence to prove so, fingers are
being pointed at the founder of VV Minerals.

VV Minerals was founded in late 1980s and is
based out of Manavalakurichi in Kanyakumari
district. The company has been alleged of
monopolizing the mining industry. Vaikundarajan
has publicly thwarted these allegations as a
defamation scheme by rival mining industries.

Two former IAS officers have accused VV Minerals
of engaging in illegal beach sand mining in the
southern districts. Some government officials at
the heart of investigations are said to have been
transferred or demoted. Several fishermen in the
region have threatened to leave their houses.

VV Mineral Vaikundarajan, however, stands firm by
his company that has operated within legal
boundaries for over two decades. He insists that
the allegations hold no credence and states that
the threats are uncalled for. We have complete
faith in the judiciary and believe the
investigation will do its job. We lend our

Vaikundarajan added.
