Title: 'The Outsider' - Task 4

1
The Outsider
Rom-Com, Sci-Fi Horror adaptations.
2
Rom-Com
The Outsider is a clumsy woman, full of life,
happy and oblivious to everything around her. On
her walk home she sees a funny looking, miserable
cat and decides to head towards it. As she gets
closer to the cat, the cat becomes vicious
towards her, circling her so she cant get
away. Suddenly she hears a mans voice shouting
from a distance behind her and turns to see the
man appear, sprinting away from another vicious
miserable cat. She manages to jump across the cat
before it can claw at her and the pair run off
into a back alley and through a dark open back
door to what they assume is a bar. They
eventually get into the front of the building and
find themselves in one of those quirky and
strange cat cafes, filled with cats to their
horror. As they try to leave, the owners of the
cats and the cats themselves become infuriated
and try to block their exit the pair decide to
shine their phone torches along the walls to
distract the cats and they get away. They
continue their escape through the streets of
Brooklyn, New York and stumble upon their first
enemies the two miserable cats. To defend
themselves they manage to kick the cats in their
quick get away and run off into the sunset
falling in love.

Main leads Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd. I have
chosen these two for main leads as the romantic
comedy duo as they were in a film called They
Came Together playing similar roles and worked
well together. I also really wanted to choose Amy
for the female lead in my Rom-Com as she starred
as the main comedy lead in the American sitcom
Parks and Recreation which I love and Paul Rudd
had a smaller lead role in the comedy series
Friends playing Mike who was a comedic and
loveable character. I chose the setting of
Brooklyn, New York as it is a typical setting for
Rom-Coms with it being a big city full of
possibility. Having a big location is ideal for
creating the effect of chaos in a humorous way
theres no where to run to but at the same time
there is.

Horror
The Outsider is a young girl walking her dog
through the forest of her home town as shes
never explored those parts. Her dog begins to
bark and scrambles off the path in an unknown
direction she guesses its a small rabbit and
lets the dog lead her away. As they get deeper
into the forest she sees an unusual figure
darting around them. The figure approaches them
both and she tries to drag her dog out of the
depth and back into the clear path where they
were safe. Once they return to the path, they
come across a seemingly friendly older lady who
sees their panic and tells them of the dangers of
the unusual vampire-like figures that prey on the
humans that enter the unknown. The dog continues
to viciously bark at the lady and she becomes
filled with rage, trying to attack the dog and
revealing herself as one of these figures. The
girl and her dog try to get away and manage to
obstruct the vampires pathwaysbut whether the
pair have survived is left unknown.

Main Lead As the young girl walking her dog I
chose to pick Aubrey Plaza to play her. I chose
Aubrey Plaza as her mannerisms and her acting in
Parks and Recreation and various other films
she has been a part of such as Life After Beth,
had really grown on me and when I was creating my
Horror adaptation I could just see her as the
lead role. Horror Leads When creating my Horror
adaptation of The Outsider, my first thought
for these problematic characters was the evil
vampires from The Twilight Saga Eclipse. I
chose to use these as my Horror leads as they
depict the expectations of vampires that are
blood thirsty and feast on humans they have the
potential to place fear in an audience. Setting
The setting of a misty unknown forest setting was
appealing to me as it offers the opportunity for
danger. It allows the characters to enter a world
outside of social boundaries.

Sci-Fi
The Outsider is an alien who has been stranded
after a spaceship wreckage on an unknown
planet. Confused where to head, he hears a
commotion over the hill of the desert type land
and heads towards it. To the aliens surprise, he
comes across the leader of his home planet, an
evil and destructive creature with no compassion
for anyone or anything. The leader sees the alien
and through a god awful screech, has his army of
evil alien creatures swarm in from all
directions. The alien panics as he has been left
without means of transport to get away however
mid panic, a human man appears from above with a
human woman in an old looking helicopter, fully
armed for attack from the invasion on planet
Earth. They offer help to the alien who they can
tell is no threat however the woman reveals her
deal with the evil alien leader and the pair kill
her off. They manage to protect the planet from
the invasion and destroy the evil creatures. The
alien decides not to return to his home planet
and becomes accepted by his new human friend and
everyone else on the planet.

Main leads For my main lead of the good alien, I
have chosen to base it off of E.T. purely because
I love E.T. and hes a loveable character that
can be seen getting along with the human race. As
my male human lead I chose to use Chris Pratt
from Parks and Recreation, Jurassic World and
Guardians of the Galaxy. I chose Chris Pratt as
hes definitely my favourite actor, especially in
Parks and Recreation however, he also fits into
this Sci-Fi world as the good guy type of
character, being helpful and protective. My
Female lead I chose Sigourney Weaver. Shes been
in a lot of Sci-Fi genre films and is capable of
playing a really effective manipulating and
deceitful character, otherwise known as the bad
guy. Setting I chose the setting of Planet
Earth in a baron desert landscape as I could
picture the idea of an alien vs human scenario
taking place far off from civilisation in a wide
open space this setting is ideal for this to
happen and works well in my adaptation of The
Outsider as at first the alien is unaware of the
planet he has landed on.
