Meerut Still in the Race of Being the 13th Smart

The race between Rae Bareli and Meerut for being
selected as the13th UP city in the list of 100
smart cities of India is still on. The center has
already declared 98 Indian cities that will be
developed as smart cities. Now the government of
UP will take a decision of including or excluding
Meerut as the next city to be included the
complete list of 100 Indian smart cities.
Interestingly, the government of UP have
preferred to choose Rae Bareli over Meerut, even
after both the cities are tied on the same score.
Yet, the Center has sought clarification from the
state government on what basis it chose Rae
Bareli.

"More information is sought from Uttar Pradesh
government about the 13th smart city that is yet
to be announced," urban development minister M
Venkaiah Naidu. The urban development ministry
has already declared 12 nominations from UP and
the rest name will be disclosed soon. That is why
Meerut has a reason to hope for the best. If
Meerut is included in the list of smart city, it
will ensure the fastest growth than other UP
cities as it has already an improved social and
physical infrastructure. There are many ongoing
infrastructure and development projects.
Moreover, it proximity to the national capital
will boost the real estate market and property in
Meerut.

possible inclusion in the list of smart city will
give a new pace to the development of the city.
