One of the questions I get asked a lot is, How
did you grow your consulting business so fast? I
never mind answering this question because its
one of my favorite things to talk about!
After my first business failed and I lost a ton
of money I learned the error of my ways before
going into business number two.

  • I made two major mistakes that caused my demise
  • I didnt understand marketing.
  • I didnt have a strategy or plan. I just worked
    hard all day long hustling with no purpose.

  • So when I went into my next endeavor I prepared
    to not only play a very serious game, but to win.
  • I first decided who my Perfect Customer or my
    ideal target market was so I would be able to
    talk to them in a way that would get their
    attention about things that mattered TO THEM NOT
    ME.
  • I came up with a strategy and process to reach
    that Perfect Customer.
  • I implemented the marketing process and I
    followed it without fail until I succeeded.

When people tell me they dont have a target
market, its very hard for me to wrap my arms
around a marketing strategy for them. The
8-second attention span world we now live in is
very noisy and if you dont stand out, youre
just a participant in the noise.

How Blogging Can Fill Your Consulting Practice
When I came up with a strategy to grow my
business quickly (I was broke and on the verge of
losing my house!) I closed in on an ideal client
profile. Then it was all about FOCUS FOCUS
FOCUS. (Unless youve got some Hocus Pocus on you
side, getting a hard Focus is the only thing
thats going to save you!)

Gage Your Perfect Customer Whats Their
Pain? I studied my Perfect Customer so I knew
them very well. What was their pain? Their needs?
Their obstacles? I visited where they hung out on
the Internet, whether it was LinkedIn Groups,
forums, or even Amazon to see what type of
feedback they left on books that was related to
my business. The key is, dont blog about
things you THINK your target market wants to know
or even what you just want to tell them. Instead,
find out what they need to know, and thats the
things you talk (blog) about.

Now Youre an Expert Youre now in a position to
be considered an expert at what you do. If youre
calling and emailing people cold or just pounding
the pavement as some call it, its tough to get
people to respond and call you back right?
Asking someone to call or email you back is one
thing but compelling them to is whole other
ballgame. You will be a magnet and attract your
ideal client to you. Youll have the solutions
that they need.

Youll create content or blog posts that are
solutions to their problems or obstacles and
theyll see you as an expert in what they need.
Theres a dynamic layer of trust being built in
that process, you will earn credibility
automatically. Yes, they still might not come
knocking your door down, however, when you knock
at theirs they may be much more likely to answer.
Theyll already have a sense of knowing you and
that makes them feel more comfortable about
talking with you.

Make Sales Faster.
When you create content this way you can make
sales faster as I have eluded to in point number
three. Lets just say you wrote a few articles
that were very useful to your Perfect Customer
profile. Its a great idea to establish
connections with them perhaps on LinkedIn or in
other places wherever you prospect. Send them a
personal email and then say, I wrote an article
recently that I thought you may get value from.

Create Traffic.
Blogging creates great traffic to your website! I
dont want a ton of crummy traffic, I want a good
number of the right people to visit my website.
The way you market your content can pull that
traffic in and they may not reach out to you
right away, but when they get comfortable with
you they will!
Get blogging in your business! It creates magic!
