Michael KimnerStrength of Character
Michael Kimner was named President and Chief
Executive Officer of Duke Energy Merchants in
2001, just six years after initially joining the
company in 1995. This is somewhat of a metaphoric
rise, though he had also held upper management
positions in previous jobs. Leadership is not a
foreign concept to Michael Kimner.
Throughout his entire career he has displayed
leadership qualities, successfully supervising
traders and other employees. In actuality, he
would not have progressed as far and as quickly
as he had were it not for the qualities he
displayed in each progressively responsible
position.

Michael Kimner, who launched Charleston Energy
Trading Fund in Charleston, South Carolina, is an
Independent Investment Management professional.
From the time he graduated from college with a
degree in Business Administration, he set his
sights on working in an upper management capacity
and managed to do so in several companies. It
takes a strong work ethic to be a successful
President and CEO. The hours are long and the
work never-ending. The fact that Michael Kimner
holds a Series 3 securities license, allowing him
to deal with commodities and futures contracts.
Since moving from Houston to Charleston, Michael
Kimner has not allowed his work ethic to suffer.
He just relocated it, throwing himself into the
new Charleston Energy Trading Fund and spending
time with his children.

Michael Kimner attended the University of Main,
Orono, initially earning an Associate degree in
Communications. He went on to earn a Bachelor of
Science degree in Business Administration, with a
focus on Finance. As one can see in a study of
his career, neither degrees went unused!   His
first position, at Champion Energy, started him
on a path that would eventually lead to becoming
President and CEO of the biggest supplier of
electricity in the southern states, Duke Energy.
As an Assistant Manager of Supply and
Distribution at Champion, Michael Kimner was
responsible for overseeing the scheduling of all
oil, jet fuel and kerosene shipments from the
Gulf Coast to the East Coast. He moved from that
position to Manager of Supply and Trading,
managing a five state oil and gasoline system.

Michael Kimner has several decades of experience
in the energy industry, the most important and
challenging being at Duke Energy Corporation.
Michael Kimner was initially hired as the Vice
President of Trading and Portfolio Management
He spent a few years there learning about Duke
Energy and the Energy Industry in general.
Michael Kimner was responsible for derivative
trading and hedging services for their physical
natural gas group, covering almost every pipeline
in the United States.
