Repairing Noisy Air Conditioner Units
  • A central air conditioning units outside
condenser can be very loud. If it is too loud
there are some things you can do. After looking
the unit over to see if you can determine what
the cause is you need to make sure that you shut
off all power to the unit if you need to work on
it. To do this you will need to
  • Turn the thermostat off inside the home
  • At the main panel you need to switch off the
    breakers
  • At the outside disconnect box you need to pull
    out the fuse block
  • You can also deflect the noise by fencing all or
just one side of the outside unit of the central
air conditioner. You need to make sure that any
fence you build around it is at least three feet
from the air conditioning unit to allow the flow
    of air.
  • If you have an older air condenser unit you may
need to have an ac installation contractor
install a new unit because that older unit is
    wearing out.

New and Old Air Conditioning Units
The newer air conditioning units are much quieter
than some produced years before. The newer units
can also help to cut your electric bills and save
you money if they are a high-efficiency unit.
The only drawback of replacing your older unit is
the initial cost of a newer unit, which can cost
several thousand dollars. If you are unsure if
it should be replaced have it checked by an ac
repair contractor.   If it is a newer unit the
fans are normally very quiet so the problem is
probably coming from the compressor. To resolve
this problem you can purchase a universal
blanket, also known as a compressor sound
blanket. If you have an older unit, you should
not bother with a new blanket because you will
still hear the fan, which are usually noisy on
older units.

Verifying an AC Contractor Before Hiring
Before you sign the contract and hire an AC
contractor you should do an online verification
to check to see if they have a state license.
One thing that you need to be aware of is that
some states do not provide much information on
the contractors license. For example it may or
may not show you the expiration date of that
particular contractors license. When verifying
whether the contractor is legitimate or not and
you see their name you know that your state is
aware of the AC contractor and is keeping track
of them. Another important piece of information
is that in order to be licensed the AC contractor
must give them their social security number.

Installing an A/C Yourself
Installing a room air conditioner is normally an
easy project but when you are installing one that
goes outside and will cool your entire home will
take specific tools and skills. If you do not
have these skills or tools it is best to contact
an ac installation contractor. If you decide to
install it yourself you will first need to make a
detailed plan. This is not going to be a weekend
project and will take some time. The key to
being successful is to be prepared. This means
that you have enough material and the correct
tools to complete the project before you even
begin.
