What to Do when in the Worlds Coldest Places
Globetrotter Travel Tips
2
  • I complain a lot about the cold when Im in Fort
McMurray, Alberta. While I write this, we are
under a cold weather advisory of temperatures
reaching -40 C. This cannot compare to the
worlds coldest places you are about to read
about. Perhaps, like brilliant author Albert
Camus said, In the depths of winter, I finally
learned that within me there lay an invincible
summer. Lets hope that people living in these
    places have found theirs.

What to Do when in the Worlds Coldest Places
  • Europe, Canada, United States and some other
places in the world have four seasons winter,
spring, summer and fall. Flowers start to bloom
during spring so, it is best to visit botanical
gardens. During summer, which is the warmest of
all four seasons, locals and tourists alike are
seen enjoying sunny beaches. When autumn comes,
the leaves of the trees start falling this is
why it is ideal to take a tour at picturesque
virgin forests. However during winter, the
coldest season of all, most people prefer to lock
themselves inside the house and sit in front of
the fireplace to get warm. Isnt this boring?
Well, as a treat to people who prefer cold
weather, here are some of the worlds coldest
locations and tips on what to do when in these
    places.

4
1 Oymyakon, Russia
  • On July 21, 1983, a Russian research station
recorded Vostok, Antartica as the place on Earth
with the coldest temperature ever recorded. At
that time, the temperature reached -128.6 F or
-89.22 C. Just recently, a reliable source named
Oymyakon, Russia as the coldest inhabited area
on Earth with a freezing temperature of -58 F
or -50 C. But this temperature is not the
coldest. In the year 1924, the lowest recorded
temperature in this place was -96.16 F or
-71.2 C. There is really nothing much to do in
this place given its frigid weather.

5
  • In fact, vehicles parked outside the house or
building need to be kept running so that owners
will not have a hard time restarting them. In
addition, because the ground is frozen, crops and
other vegetations cannot grow in this place
    during winter.
  • This is why its residents solely rely on frozen
fishes and meat. Nonetheless, this place is ideal
for photographers who want to capture an almost
    unbelievable life in the cold.

2 Verkhoyansk and Yakutsk, Russia
  • Yakutsk, which is a 2-day drive from Oymyakon,
is the worlds coldest city. On a monthly basis,
the average temperature in this place is -37.5 F
    or -38.6 C in January and 67.1 F or 16.5 C in
July. In general, this city is considered to have
    an extreme subartic climate.
  • Wondering what to do when in Yakutsk? Well, this
city is the fifth largest producer of diamonds.
Needless to say, this place is perfect for those
who love to collect jewelries made from this gem.

7
  • Verkhoyansk, on the other hand, has an average
    monthly temperature of -49.7 F or -45.4 C in
the month of January and 61.7 F or 16.5 C in
July. This place has both an airport and a river
    port. Meaning, businesses related to
    transportation is thriving.
  • When in Verkhoyansk, never fly back home without
shopping for your favorite fur collection. And if
you are into reindeer-raising, then might as well
    build a rest house here.

3 Antartica
  • Wikipedia describes Antartica as the coldest,
driest, and windiest continent. Nonetheless, it
still takes pride of its small-scale tourism.
  • When in countries located in Antartica, tourists
should not miss private yachting, luxurious sea
cruises, and scenic flights. Fun land-based
activities such as camping, hiking, and skiing
are also a must-try for visitors.
