Title: Helping a Loved One with the Loss of a Pet

1
Helping a Loved One with the Loss of a Pet
2
  • No one wants to see someone they care about sad
devastated heartbroken. But the loss of a pet
can bring on all these emotions. So, what can you
do? How can you help? Understanding that your
    significant other, mother, father, sister,
brother, or friend needs love and support will go
    a long way.

3
  • Many people feel as though they need to downplay
the grief they feel over losing a beloved pet.
Let them know that isnt necessary. The cat, dog,
bird, horse, whatever animal it was, played an
    important role in their life.

4
  • They should take all the time they need to grieve
without being embarrassed. While your loved one
is mourning, you can start planning.

  • Every pet owner wants to know that their dear
companion was loved and cherished by others as
well. Help your loved one through this difficult
time by commemorating the life of their pet.
Memorial stones are one way of doing this.

7
  • Companies like Pet Monument Stones work with you
to design beautiful keepsake memorials. Surprise
them with a Granite River Rock or Blackstone
Boulder engraved with the name of their pet as
well as a special message, a photo or a clip-art
    graphic.

8
  • This is a tribute they can keep in the house or
garden and take with them should they ever move.
The simple act of paying your respects will touch
them more than you could ever know.

  • When the memorial stone arrives, gather family
and friends together and present the gift. Have
everyone take a turn sharing a special memory of
the dearly departed animal and say your final
goodbyes. If it feels right, light a candle in
their honor or hold a moment of silence.

11
  • One mistake often made is to ask when a new pet
will come into the home. Even if asked with the
best of intentions, this is the last thing your
loved one will probably want to hear or think
about. When the time is right for them, they will
    let you know.

12
  • Some people never get a new pet, others take
years and some only take a few weeks or months.
It will be a hard decision to make and one that
shouldnt be rushed. If or when a new pet does
enter the picture, they will always have the
memorial stone to look back on with a smile.

  • There is no right or wrong way to grieve the loss
of a pet. Give your loved one space, time,
company whatever it is they need. You may be
grieving along with them or you may not
    understand it.

15
  • The thing to remember is, the pain is real and
mourning is necessary to heal. Be a shoulder to
cry on, an open ear, a silent companion when
needed and a talkative one too. Just help your
loved one keep the memory of their amazing animal
    alive.
