About Us
Meet Our Team
Dr. Smith graduated from Washington University
School of Dentistry in 1971. After graduating, he
completed a Family Practice Residency with the US
Army at Madigan General Hospital. He received
advanced training in oral surgery,
prosthodontics, endodontics and intra venous
conscious sedation. Following the residency Dr
Smith served three years active duty with Army in
Germany as a clinic commander.
Dr. Smith left active duty with army in 1975 to
establish The Dental Health Center. The practice
was established to provide our patients with the
highest quality dental care, the newest
technology and the most advanced education
available in a comfortable and enjoyable
setting.
Dr. Douglas J Smith, DDS, MAGD
Dr. Smith has taken advanced training in
orthodontics, implantology, oral surgery,.
intra-venous conscious sedation, and has received
advanced training in CEREC
technology. Through his perpetual student-
dedication, Dr. Smith qualified and received his
Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry in
2010
Dr. Smith is dedicated to continuing his studies
and bringing the highest level of care to his
patients. His patients enjoy his gentle touch,
listening attitude and achieving the smile of
their dreams.
His interests include playing and working with
his grand-kids, gardening, x-country skiing,
scouting, and spending time with his wife and
family.

Meet Our Team
Dr. Scott Wilkes was born and raised in Rexburg,
graduated from Madison High School, and has
always loved the Rexburg community and lifestyle.
After studying at Ricks College, and graduating
from Brigham Young University he attended the
Virginia Commonwealth University School of
Dentistry, in Richmond, VA where he graduated in
2005.
After practicing in Boise, ID, at a childrens
Medicaid clinic, he returned to Rexburg and
joined The Dental Health Center in 2007. Dr.
Wilkes enjoys all aspects of dentistry and
appreciates working with all ages and spectrums
of patients. He has completed additional training
in oral conscious sedation and loves the ability
to help patients with deep rooted fears have
their dental work performed in a relaxed,
comfortable setting.

touch and excellent dentistry.
Dr. Wilkes enjoys spending time with his wife and
four children, reading, outdoor recreation and
performing service in his community and church.

Meet Our Team
The Dental Health Center is proud to welcome Dr.
Ryan Smith as the newest member of our team. Dr.
Smith joins his father, Dr. Douglas Smith and Dr.
Scott Wilkes in providing the most advanced and
highest quality dental treatment available.
Dr. Smith is a graduate of the University Of
Kentucky School Of Dental Medicine with a DMD
degree, and is a member of the American Dental
Association and the Academy of General Dentists.
His first-rate training and natural ability have
made him adept at the things our patients need
most including porcelain veneers, dental
extractions, refitting of loose dentures, TMJ
symptom treatment, root canals and of course
general and cosmetic dentistry. He has also
recently completed a course in IV sedation
allowing
him to provide the highest level of comfort to
patients with anxiety about getting needed dental
work completed.
Dr. Ryan Smith, DMD
He is proud to return home to Rexburg, where his
family roots run deep. The Smith ancestors helped
settle the Rexburg area over a century ago and
they?ve resided there ever since. Dr. Smith looks
forward to serving the people of Rexburg many
he has known for years, and others he has yet to
meet. The opportunity to provide patients the
best and most technologically advanced treatment
available, as well as show genuine respect and
care for each individual makes him excited about

Our office is conveniently located off of Main
Street on Professional Plaza in Rexburg just
minutes away from BYU-Idaho and downtown. We are
proud of our office, which fully utilizes state
of the art equipment. We have modern
sterilization and delivery systems that meet or
exceed accepted safety requirements. Our friendly
and competent dental team is dedicated to your
comfort and quality of care. Providing the best
and latest in dental technology and treatment

We provide gentle, family oriented dental care to

communities. In addition we also cater to out of
state patients seeking to meet their dental
needs. We work closely with specialists when
needed to ensure our patients receive the best

Often we are called upon to meet early deadlines
for our patients for weddings, special events,
etc. Crowns in a day, early morning hours,
critical care services and emergency evening and
weekend hours help our patients meet their busy
schedules while also providing care when it is

Dental Implants
Dental implants are a revolutionary, modern,
advanced method for replacing lost or missing
teeth because of trauma, decay or genetics. A
dental implant is literally a bionic root made of
titanium. Implants restore confidence and ease
for smiling, chewing, coughing, kissing or any
other function of the mouth compromised by
missing teeth or the looseness of dentures.
An implant provides a platform for replacing a
missing tooth. After implant placement and once
the bone has healed to the implant, a new tooth
is made which almost exactly replicates a natural
tooth in color, shape and function. This is then

Oral Surgery
Otherwise known as third molars, wisdom teeth
often do not have room to come into the mouth.
When these teeth come in partially, they are a
real potential for a life threatening infection.
Wisdom teeth can also damage the good and healthy
molar in front of them by causing decay, loss of
bone or contributing to gum problems. When the
molars remain impacted, they can also develop
cysts or other problems in the jaw bone. Part of
our comprehensive examinations will check for the
wisdom teeth and evaluate whether their removal
would be beneficial for the long term health of
the jaw bone and neighboring teeth. Most wisdom
teeth can be removed here in our office with the
use of
.
local anesthetics combined with an optional
secondary means of sedation gas, oral
medications or IV sedation. Our doctors have
received the advanced training necessary to
safely and efficiently provide this procedure. In
addition, we provide most other oral surgery
needs for our patients, from simple extractions
to complex bone grafting which is often needed
to ensure sufficient bone mass for the placement
of implants.

doctors who utilize oral and IV sedation to allow
a patient to sleep comfortably while all their
dental work is completed. Because of the
comprehensive training of our dentists, we are
almost always able to provide all the dental care
a patient might need while asleep, from root
canals to crowns, deep cleanings to implants,
extractions to fillings.
