I AS A PEDIATRICIAN DOCTOR -
  • started practicing Pediatrics medicine from 1998
    in Hyderabad.
  • I used to save many lives of Emergency children
Patients as a Doctor. Patients used to come to me
in emergencies i.e just before death condition -
    like severe Breathlessness, severe dehydration,
meningitis, seizures, refusal of milk feeds by
new born babies, neonatal jaundice with
septicemia etc. many lives were saved by me. I
became very famous Doctor near BHEL. People used
to identify me where ever I go, I thought that I
was more than a God. But I was an atheist.

  • BUT in 2002 I met an road accident and was on bed
for 8 months with both lower limbs fracture, then
I realized many aspects of healing about life
    more than Medicine.
  • I suffered trauma pain due to fracture leg
    -physical trauma, social trauma, emotional
    trauma, psychological trauma, vocational trauma
    and spiritual.
  • Many persons in this multi trauma may die not
because of actual physical trauma but due to the
    stress of other traumas.

8
Astrology bydr prema kumar sharma
  • Before I met an road accident in 2002, I was an
atheist but now I believe in God because of
Astrology. His Astrology predictions helped me in
many ways everyday issues of Health, children and
Family, Career and Finance. Before investing
money I followed Astro predictions and saved from
losses. As Astrology found correct on myself
every day and Astro science should be correct.
  • Eg. Health special care for blood pressure
patients. Remember that increase in blood
pressure exerts more strain on the functioning of
the heart. You should therefore strive to lower
your blood pressure and keep the cholesterol
under control. Meditation, a low salt intake and
diet on your part could check the problem to a
    great extent.
  • http//www.premastrologer.com/pages/aquariusdaily

9
ASTROLOGY / GOD ?
  • I am a strong believer of science. Without
evidence I dont believe anything. Astrologist
prediction about my accident was correct. Then I
believed in Astrology after I met an accident /
trauma. if I believe Astrology is correct, then
Astrology science - about planets influence on
our daily life should be correct. If I believe
this, then super power controlling this universe
The God existence should be correct. Then I
    became the Believer of God.
  • I found that just physical healing is not enough
but more to know- next let us to our topic

10
Presentation Outcome GoalsParticipants will be
able to
  • Define Definition of complete Health and
Spiritual health and have awareness of the
benefits of spirituality in the care of patients,
especially patients at the end of life as based
    on the examination of research.
  • Identify what spiritual needs are, and how to
respond to spiritual and emotional needs.
  • Recognize that ones own spirituality might
affect how one might relate to, and provide care
to patients. Develop awareness of personal issues
that might hinder one from providing spiritual
    care.

11
mind, body, spirit and the mystery of life and
death
  • WHO defined health as a state of physical, mental
and social wellbeing added to which are the
    emotional, vocational and spiritual components.
Health doesnt mean absence of disability or
    infirmity.
  • Physical health is because of proper nutrition,
exercise, hygiene, awareness of various infective
    and chronic ailments etc.

  • Psychological health is by way of having right
thoughts and attitudes and by way of
    understanding ones own psychological patterns.
Nurturing rewarding patterns and erasing the
unrewarding patterns is a right way of
    maintaining ones mental health.
  • Emotional Health is developing emotional balance
and harmony which is very much required in the
present world containing a lot of stimuli to make
one a reactive person. Letting-go ones emotional
impressions lying in the form of anxiety, fears,
insult and guilt etc makes one an emotionally
    intelligent

13
  • Social health is about having happy and
harmonious relationships with the family members
    and professional colleagues. Respecting others
choices makes one socially healthy. Having a
right approach of inter-dependence makes one
    socially healthy.
  • Vocational Health is about the job satisfaction
and financial abundance. Having money in the
pocket makes one feel confident in this world of
money needs. Choosing a right job which suits
ones passions and needs makes one vocationally
    healthy.

14
  • Spiritual health is all about having a purpose of
life and developing the understanding that one is
going to vacate the physical body on one day and
there is no guarantee of physical existence of
the body. The values and an attitude of
    contentment make one spiritually healthy.
  • As per the above definition, most of the people
are not healthy - only a few are enjoying the
complete dimensions of health and these are the
ones who understood the meaning and value of
    health in all its aspects.

15

MSOP Report III regarding spirituality
  • Spirituality is recognized as a factor that
contributes to health in many persons. The
concept of spirituality is found in all cultures
and societies. It is expressed in an
individuals search for ultimate meaning through
participation in religion and / or belief in God,
family, naturalism, rationalism, humanism and the
arts. All these factors can influence how
patients and health care professionals perceive
health and illness and how they interact with one
    another.

The human DNA is a biological internet and
superior in many aspects to the artificial one.
Russian scientific research directly or
indirectly explains phenomena such as
clairvoyance (Divya Drushti), intuition,
spontaneous and remote acts of healing, self
healing, affirmation techniques, unusual
light/auras around people namely spiritual

DO YOU KNOW THAT OUR SPIRIT, MIND AND BODY IS
COMMUNICATING WITH GOD LIKE INTERNET (BY UNKNOWN
WAY) BY THINKING
  • One can simply use words and sentences of the
human language! This, too, was experimentally
proven! Living DNA substance (in living tissue,
not in vitro) will always react to
language-modulated laser rays and even to radio
waves, if the proper frequencies are being used.
  • God and spiritual teachers have known for ages
that our body is programmable by language, words
and thought. This has now been scientifically
    proven

body, mind and soul influence each other
  • Health  A healthy mind resides in a healthy
body. This is not the simple phrase but the
mantra, which you are going to follow. This would
enable you to enhance mental toughness besides
maintaining a sound physical health .
  • Ref Yashendu Goswami, Swami Jiâs

Remote healing, telepathy or remote sensing -
Animals also have
  • We now know that just as on the internet our DNA
can feed its proper data into the network, can
call up data from the network and can establish
contact with other participants in the network.
  • Remote healing, telepathy or remote sensing
about the state of relatives etc.. can thus be
explained. Some animals know also from afar when
their owners plan to return home / Birds BEFORE
cyclone / Before tsunami an elephants behaviour
as seen in Kerala. That can be freshly
interpreted and explained via the concepts of
    group consciousness and hyper communication.

DNA CAN BE INFLUENCED BY EXTERNAL STIMULI / LIGHT
AND IT CAN STORE DATA
  • DNA It apparently is also an organic
superconductor that can work at normal body
    temperature. Artificial superconductors require
extremely low temperatures of between 200 and
140C to function. As one recently learned, all
superconductors are able to store light and thus
information. This is a further explanation of how
    the DNA can store information.

Yoga - Unity
  • The Sanskrit word 'Yoga' literally translates to
'unity' and this is the essence and aim of this
ancient science uniting your soul with the one
big soul which is called God, the universe and
has many more names. Yoga helps you to reach this
goal of being one with this energy. You get to
know your body, mind and soul and thus reach a
new balance in your life which is then filled
with happiness and joy. Yoga has changed many
lives, let it change yours, too!
  • Benefits of Yoga Physical Health and Fitness
    through Yoga Poses
  • It is known as a fact that yoga strengthens the
body and gives it much more flexibility. There is
an enourmous variety of Asanas (different yoga
positions) which stretch, bend and flex each
muscle of your body and of course cover all
levels of experience. It is wrong to think that
you have to be flexible to do yoga - everybody
    can!

HOW TO HEAL YOUR BODY BY YOURSELF
  • Yoga helps to ease pain in joints and muscles and
to relief tension as well as it improves the
respiratory system and support digestion and
intestines. There are yoga postures for each part
of the body whether it is the back, your neck,
your joints, your belly or your feet. It is for
the whole body. And of course you can practice
yoga for weight loss with exercises concentrating
especially on those areas where you feel you have
extra fat. Practicing yoga is thus just wonderful
    for your health and fitness.
  • Mental and Emotional Health and Well-Being
  • Although Yoga is known mostly for its benefits on
physical health, that is only a part of this
science. Another part is the work and effect that
it has on mind and emotions. The regular practice
of yoga exercises, Prana yama (breathing
techniques) and meditation has a very relaxing
and calming effect on the mind and it balances
the emotions in the body as there is a time in
which everything can come to peace. Meditation is
additionally proven to enhance concentration and
focus which helps us think faster and in more
    flexible ways.
  • Yoga as a whole is considered therapeutic as it
doesn't only offer treatment through exercise to
the body but can also heal mental disorders and
improve conditions like depression or bipolar as
    it gives stability and balance.

41
Learn to heal yourself
  • you can get to know how everybody can apply these
    laws on his life.
  • The Indian healer Swami Balendu Ji teaches the
ways to self-healing. During a meditative retreat
of more than three years isolated from the world,
he adjusted his own energy to these new
frequencies. This intensive retreat did not only
help him to fully realize his connection to the
universe but also induced him to spread this
energy all over the world. Swami Ji's healing
work is based on the interaction of body, mind
and soul and to heal the entity of body, mind and
    soul.

42
Children can heal you
  • Children are more Spiritual. Child is a big soul
in a small body and adult is a small soul in a
big body. Spend valuable time with children when
ever possible / depressed / fear / anxiety etc.
It is the best form of healing for adults. They
are the source of unlimited joy.
  • Health  Dont forget to put a special thrust
on the physical education along with the mental
because only by that way you can fully develop
yourself. Remember a healthy mind is possible in
    a healthy body.

43
Health
  • Health  It is high time to get rid of the
habit of always complaining and getting upset
over trivial issues. Keep in mind that indulgence
in these kinds of things badly affects health.
You should rather cultivate a generous attitude
towards life to make it easy as well as happy.
  • Change lifestyle if you want to get immediate
relief from your prolong tension and strains of
life. In this exercise is must and leads to a
healthy and disease-free life. It also helps in

exercise a part of your daily routine while smile
    your biggest armour.

Spiritual healing
  • one-line definition "It is only positive
    energy." Simple, but mystifying
    nonetheless.Spiritual healing is a no-touch
    therapy.
  • It comprises of eight techniques, including
  • crystal healing,
  • pillar of light, and
  • sound therapy.
  • "Even the spell of negative entities can be
broken by it," says Ratra. "We keep on
invoking sanjeevani shakti (positive life forces)
and flood the body with it. Slowly the negative
entity is overpowered and withdraws." In crystal
healing, for example, you put the crystal on the
crown chakra (energy center), move it to capture
the negative forces before making it touch the
earth. Once the negative energy is thrown out,
you invoke sanjeevani shakti and fill the
    resulting vacuum with positive energy.

50
spiritual healing
  • Ratra first initiates his students
to Shaktipat (transmission of energy from teacher
to disciple to awaken the kundalini,
the spiritual energy latent at the base of the
human spine). Once this happens, one can tap 32
types of sanjeevani shakti. "For each person and
ailment, there is a particular sanjeevani
shakti," says Ratra. And spiritual healing is not
confined to people even places with negative
forces can be turned positive. According
to Ratra, spiritual healing helps resolve all
    kinds of problemsphysical, emotional and
financial. He have found it extremely effective
    in cases of disturbed relationship".

Science cannot answer -how to create life,
but we are living. -We cannot stop natural
calamities and we are suffering
  •  Spiritual Healing is a very gentle way of
giving your child the energy to cope with their
anxiety, an ability to express themselves, and
the means to heal themselves. How does this
work? Who can say? And, what difference does it
make? Many have dissected our spiritualness, and
pieced the healing act back together in an
attempt to understand it. Whatever conclusions
they come to are no more than personal
interpretation. I used to worry about it a lot,
because I come from a scientific background, but
I realise science cannot answer my questions, and
so I stopped asking. I'm always amazed that
healing works in the way that it does.

53
Should Children Have  Spiritual Healing?
  • Yes, of course they should! In fact, I'd go so
far as to say, I think ALL children should have
spiritual healing, perhaps even on a regular
basis, both for their body, mind and soul. There
is nothing more beautiful, and certainly nothing
less harmful to a child than spiritual healing.
It is the most natural form of healing in the

2) Religion
  • Religion is an organized and public belief system
of worship and practices that generally has a
focus on a god or supernatural power. It
generally offers an arrangement of symbols and
rituals that are meaningful and understood by
    its followers.
  • Religion is primarily a set of beliefs, a
collection of prayers, or rituals. Religion is
first and foremost a way of seeing. It cant
change the facts about the world we live in, but
it can change the ways we see those facts, and
that in itself can often make a difference.
    (Harold Kushner)

Spirituality
  • Thousands of alcoholic patients who found little
help from traditional medicine were able to
become sober and remain abstinent by relying on
a power greater than themselves and through the
support of a twelve step program.
  • Many may not adhere to a religious institution,
    but have a spiritual practice.

58
Spirituality
  • Spirituality fulfills specific needs
  • Meaning to life, illness, crises, and death
  • Sense of security for present and future
  • Guides daily habits
  • Elicits acceptance or rejection of other people

In Every Culture We Find Evidence of the Search
for Meaning
  • Why am I here?
  • What should I do with my life?
  • How do I order my priorities?
  • Where can I find guidance about the good life
    or the life well lived?

61
These Are Questions of Meaning
  • Questions of meaning and purpose are often
    described as spiritual issues.
  • These questions are part of being human, they
transcend culture, religion, ethnicity, they are
    universal.

Separation of Medicine from Religion
  • As science began to discover the etiology of
diseases, former religious explanations no longer
    held.
  • Science and medicine began to distance themselves

Mans Search for MeaningVictor Frankl
  • Sometimes external circumstances in our life
    situation are beyond our control.
  • Frankl maintains that the attitude we choose to
take toward our life situation is within our
    control.
  • The spiritual journey relates to our inner
struggle to shape our attitude toward illness and
    even death itself.

Carolina. . .
  • 77 wanted physicians to consider their spiritual

religious beliefs with them at all.

Mind-body Medicine
  • The scientific connection between spirituality
    and healing has been made.
  • Spiritual belief systems have a role in healing
    body, mind, and soul.
  • When we activate or intensify our spiritual
    belief systems, healing power expands.
  • This gives health care professionals, patients,
and everyone access to an expanded reservoir of
    healing power.
  • This is very good news. However, this is not easy
    to do in medical practice.
  • There are many barriers.

Problems Entering the Spiritual Domain
  • We dont work with Spirit.
  • We are not comfortable talking about religion.
  • We have no language or map.
  • We ignore or refer to spiritual counselors.
  • Lack of training
  • Belief systems are personal, intimate, complex.
  • Many have a traumatic religious history.
  • Fierce feelings and defensiveness

  • Feeling the healing power of positive emotion
such as peace, love, joy, compassion
  • Spiritual practice expansion of the healing
power from spiritual practices such as yoga,
    meditation, mindfulness, and prayer

75
Mind-body Medicine
  • Mind-body medicine teaches us how to apply the
power of the mind to healing and pain management.
  • Most medical schools now address mind-body
    principles in their general curricula.

76
Mind-body Medicine Principles
  • There is no separation between mind and body.
  • The mind is connected to every cell in the body.
  • In some yet to be determined way, thoughts have
leverage in the inner workings of our cells
    having to do with
  • disease and healing
  • pain management

77
Mind-body Medicine Principles
  • We can harness the untapped power of the mind
    for
  • expansion of healing power
  • pain control

78
Mind-body Medicine Principles
  • Pain Management
  • Often we cannot take disease away, but we can
    always help with pain management.
  • Pain is both physical and psychological.
  • All pain is experienced in the mind and can
therefore be modulated by the mind.
  • We can control pain so pain does not control our
    lives.

79
Mind-body Medicine Principles
  • We think of high-tech medicine as real and
mind-body principles as touchy-feely. This is
    reductionistic and wrong.
  • We are bio psycho social and spiritual beings. A
disturbance in any one of these leads to
    disturbances in the others.
  • Therefore, comprehensive treatment planning
includes bio psycho social and spiritual
    interventions.
  • There are many ways to do this. No one way works
    for all people

80
Activating Healing PowerIn Four Domains
  • There is an explosion of knowledge and models
having to do with healing in each of the four
    domains biopsychosocial and spiritual
  • However, there is no time to do it all Managed
care, fifteen minute appointments, paper work,
    and so on
  • How can we activate healing power in all four
domains given the limitation of time and system
    problems?
  • Good news it can be done through skills training
    and self-help

81
Step 3 The Compromise
  • However, suffering is unavoidable.
  • Often we do not accept the inevitable suffering
    of life.
  • Instead, we make a desperate attempt to eliminate
all of our suffering through faulty mechanisms
such as the cultivation of bad habits.

  • And a touch is love, just like a touch by a
loving mother when she holds her baby in her
hands. Doesn't this stop all crying and make all
    pain forgotten?
  • When mother sees or touches her baby she secrets

  • Physicians should maintain respect for their
patients beliefs. It is useful for physicians
to obtain information on the religious or
ideologic orientation and beliefs of their
    patients. . .
  • Physicians should not impose their own religious,
antireligious, or ideologic systems of belief on
    their patients. . .

Bio-Psycho-Social-Spiritual
  • Schools of Medicine have been slow to recognize
appropriate this model of whole person care.
  • The Nursing profession has long recognized the
    spiritual aspects of patient care.
  • Chaplains and clergy have often assisted patients
with the spiritual aspects of illness and the
    search for meaning purpose.

Spiritual care defined
  • Spiritual care is recognizing and responding
to the multifaceted expressions of spirituality
we encounter in our patients and their families.
The purpose is to determine the nature of a
persons relationship to God and other people,
and to give the person the opportunity to accept
spiritual support. Themes such as the search for
meaning, feelings of connection or isolation,
hope or hopelessness, and fear of dying are all
clues that a person is struggling with spiritual
    issues.

The divergence between medicine and spirituality
  • Modern medicine has developed marvelous advances
and interventions, relying more on diagnostic
procedures and less on patients conversations.
  • Managed care, by limiting the time spent with
each patient, makes it more difficult to discover
the patients spiritual concerns and most deeply
    held goals and values.

Where do we find hope?
  • Ultimately from our faith or understanding of our
    relationship to a higher power.
  • The belief that a higher eternal power is in

Question Should nurses / DOCTOR talk about
religion or spirituality with patients?
  • A. You may say no, because a nurse can not be
expected to be conversant with all religions.
  • B. You may say no, because the nurse may be an
atheist or non-believer. (Though Ive met very
    few nurses who are.)
  • C. You may say no, that would be an unethical
intrusion into the privacy of the patient.
  • D. But the answer is yes, particularly when there
are indications of patient interest or need.

97
Assess for spiritual crises
  • Search for meaning or purpose in ones life.
  • Loss of a sense of connection with people or God.
  • Feelings of guilt or unworthiness
  • No relationship with God
  • Anger, denial, and bitterness expressed toward
self, others, or God. Questioning of faith
  • Desire for forgiveness
  • Sense of abandonment by God

98
  • Nurses must be compassionate and empathic in
caring for patients In all of their
interactions with patients they must seek to
understand the meaning of the patients stories
in the context of the patients beliefs and
family and cultural values. They must continue
to care for dying patients even when
disease-specific therapy is no longer available
    or desired.
