PURPOSE OF MISSION ANALYSIS
  • To review and analyze orders, guidance, and other
    information provided by higher headquarters to
    produce a unit mission statement and provide the
    information that drives the remainder of the
    Marine Corps Planning Process. A thorough
    Mission Analysis focuses the efforts of the
    commander and staff, thereby saving time.

WHAT IS A MISSION?

PURPOSE OF THE OPERATION
  • A clear, concise statement of the purpose of the
    operation.
  • MCWP 5-1
  • May include how the commander envisions
    achieving a decision as well as the end state or
    conditions that, when satisfied, accomplish the
    purpose.
  • Helps subordinates understand the larger context
    of their actions and guides them in absence of
    orders.

SPECIFIED TASKS
  • Specified tasks Those tasks specifically
    assigned to a unit by its HHQ and / or Commander.
  • Located in paragraph 3c. and elsewhere, such as
    in the coordinating instructions or annexes.

  • Implied tasks Those tasks performed to

  • ESSENTIAL TASKS Those specified or implied
    tasks that define mission success and apply to
    the force as a whole. Once they have been

    basis of the mission statement.

Mission Statement At D60, I MEF conducts
offensive operations and clears enemy forces in
zone IOT restore the sovereignty of Blueland.

Mission Statement? At D60, I MEF, as the main
effort, conducts Off Ops IOT restore the
sovereignty of Blueland clears EN forces in zone
IOT restore the border between Orangeland and
Blueland secures JLOTS Site IOT allow logistics
throughput by NAVFOR and ARFOR and seizes AFLD
IOT allow AFFOR to establish a base for follow-on
operations.
