Warum braucht Europa den Vertrag von Lissabon?

• Um ihr Potenzial voll ausschöpfen zu können, muss
  die Europäische Union modernisiert und reformiert
  werden.
• Die Europäische Union zählt mittlerweile 27
  Mitgliedstaaten, doch sie arbeitet noch mit einem
  für 15 Mitgliedstaaten entworfenen System.

Why does Europe need the Treaty of Lisbon?

• To realise its full potential, the European Union
  needs to modernise and reform. The European Union
  of 27 members is operating with rules designed
  for an EU of 15.

Drei wichtige Gründe

• mehr Effizienz bei der Entscheidungsfindung,
• mehr Demokratie durch Stärkung der Rolle des
  Europäischen Parlaments und der nationalen
  Parlamente
• und mehr Kohärenz nach außen.
• All dies wird es der EU ermöglichen, in ihrer
  täglichen Arbeit die Interessen ihrer Bürgerinnen
  und Bürger noch besser zu vertreten.

• All of these will equip the EU to better promote
  the interests of its citizens on a day-to-day
  basis
