Mid-Atlantic Equine Pasture Initiative
  • A 3-year professional development
  • program that is being offered to equine
  • and agricultural service providers in
  • NJ, DE, MD, VA, PA, and NY
  • This is an in-service opportunity designed to
    supply educators and service providers with the
    tools they need to offer develop educational
    programs in equine pasture management

  • In-service participants received a Training
    Module (PPT and Fact Sheets) and were be able to
    network with other professionals
  • This also qualified for CCA credits
  • After training
  • ½ plan to develop their own equine pasture
    educational program
  • Majority will take more 1-on-1 visits and calls
    from equine facilities

  • We would like to see more client / educator
    interaction through visits and educational
    programs
  • More farms to volunteer as demonstration sites
    for research and education
  • Research on pasture renovation methods and
    resting/rotation cycle for horses
  • Need to support industry pasture mgt. services

    pressure
  • Development of ground covering species in horse
    pastures
  • Sugar/Starch and Fructan levels of grasses based
    on mgt practices
