To Legalize or Not To Legalize? That is
the Question
The War on Drugs has been going on for years
but we seldom hear about it in the news.
Most people seem to have forgotten that many are
still fighting this battle. However, below
the limelight, a controversy over the
legalization of some narcotics still rages.
In the eyes of some, legalizing narcotics
is a tantalizing cure-all for Americas drug
problem. One reason to legalize narcotics and to
solve some of our problems is that the courts
are overflowing with drug cases waiting to be
tried. Such an overload backs up our legal
system so that other, more important, trials must
wait for years to be resolved. Another reason
is that huge seizures of narcotics stop only a
small fraction of the drugs coming into the
country. Countless dragnets snare only the
small-time pusher, not the drug kingpin.
