Phytophthora fragariae var rubi, causal agent of
Phytophthora root rot of raspberries is A2
quarantine pathogen in State Union of Serbia and
Montenegro with nil tolerance in planting
material. Plant Protection Directorate of
Republic of Serbia has organized survey in all
nurseries in Serbia in 2004. Samples were taken
from 32 nurseries (21.06 ha) and analyzed using
nested PCR method (protocol provided by James M.
Duncan, SCRI, Dundee, Scotland) in the laboratory
for phytopathology in the Fruit and Grape
Research Center in Cacak, Serbia. 10.06 ha were
positive for presence of Phytophthora fragariae
var rubi and were eradicated. To overcome the
lack of planting material Plant Protection
Directorate of Republic of Serbia has started a
project to establish propagation fields of
different varieties raspberries and donate
planting material to the owners of nurseries in
autumn2005.
