1Small Bodies of the Solar System
Asteroids
and Meteoroids
by Joe Schmoe, Susie Q and Molly Wolly
2Comets
Comets are balls of frozen gases and tiny rock
that travel at more than 100,000 miles per hour.
The particles and gases in a comet can stretch
for millions of miles.
3Asteroids
Asteroids are made of rock and are sometimes
called minor planets. They can range in size
between 40 feet and 620 miles across. Most
asteroids orbit the sun in a region called the
asteroid belt, which stretches between the orbits
of Mars and Jupiter.
4Meteoroids
Meteorites are interplanetary rubble created by
collisions between asteroids. Meteoroids that
fall through the earths atmosphere are called
meteorites.
