What is PDT
  • PDT Group of summer training programs designed

  • Help cadets gain knowledge of the management
    challenges in leadership and human relations
    encountered by a junior Air Force officer
  • Provide a general orientation in Air Force
    specialties

General Eligibility Requirements
  • Whos Eligible AS100s who
  • Meet military and academic retention standards
    specified in AFOATSI 36-2011 both at the time of
    nomination and again prior to departing for
    training
  • Meet the specific program requirements outlined
    in AFOATSI 36-2012

  • Miscellaneous (Age requirements, security
    clearances, etc)

AS100 Special Training Program (ASSIST)
  • Objectives
  • Expose cadets to the Air Force
  • Acquaint cadets with various career opportunities
  • Allow cadets to observe AF people accomplishing
    the mission on an Air Force installation

AS100 Special Training Program (ASSIST) (cont)
  • Cadets selected for ASSIST-
  • Tour base facilities, receive mission briefings
    and hands-on training
  • Receive orientation from company grade officers
  • May or may not receive orientation flights
  • Dependent on mission requirements
  • Not guaranteed and should not be expected

  • Program Length 5 days (includes travel)
  • Travel to training on Monday
  • Return home the following Friday
  • Training Dates To be determined
  • Training Locations 1 of 10 AFBs in the US

USAFA Freefall Parachute Training (AFAFF)
  • Objective Build character, develop leadership
    skills and self-confidence
  • Training is physically and mentally demanding
  • Daily physical fitness training
  • Ground school
  • 5 Freefall jumps from 4500 feet
  • All jumps are graded
  • After 2 jumps cadets will be evaluated for
    program continuance
  • Cadets either qualify to receive 3 more jumps or
    are eliminated from the program and sent home
    early

  • Parachutist Badge awarded to those who complete
    all 5 jumps
  • Age Requirements
  • Limited to cadets 18 years of age and older
  • Physical Requirements and Limitations
  • Must successfully complete the AFAFF PFT
    (AFOATSI 36-2012, Attachment 8) prior to
    nomination by Det CC and again NLT 2-weeks prior
    to leaving school for summer
  • Maximum weight cannot exceed 215 pounds

  • Medical Requirements
  • Prior to program attendance
  • Medical records must be screened by a Flight
    Surgeon to ensure cadets meet Flying Class III
    standards
  • AM-490 Medical Certification (AFOATSI 36-2012,
    Attachment 4) must be certified by a Flight
    Surgeon
  • Program Length 12 days
  • Training Dates To be determined
  • Training Location USAF Academy, Colorado

Air Force Academy Soaring(SOAR)
  • Objective Provide cadets an initial exposure to
    flying and to AF flying operations
  • Cadets receive instruction through
  • Ground school
  • Actual flight in non-powered gliders
  • Physical Requirements and Limitations
  • Maximum allowable weight 230 pounds

  • Program Length Approximately 15 days
  • Training Dates To be determined

  • Training Location USAFA, Colorado

Combat Survival Training (CST)
  • Objective Expose cadets to combat, aircrew,
    survival and evasion training in a realistic
    environment
  • Training is physically and mentally demanding
  • Limited to contract cadets only
  • Exception Noncontract cadets may apply if they
    are prior-service and already have a security
    clearance
  • Special Requirements
  • Secret Security Clearance is mandatory prior to
    attendance

Combat Survival Training (CST) (cont)
  • Medical Requirements
  • Must be medically certified by a physician IAW
    AFOATSI 36-2012, Attachment 5, prior to program
    attendance
  • Program Length 20 days
  • Training Location USAF Academy, Colorado
  • Training Dates To be determined

Medical Orientation (MO) Program
  • Objective Introduce cadets who are interested
    in becoming Air Force medical doctors to military
    medicine
  • Primarily for Pre-Health scholarship recipients
  • However, other cadets contemplating a career in
    military medicine may volunteer

  • Training Location Wilford Hall Medical
    Center, Lackland AFB TX

Rising Sophomore Summer Program (RSSP)
  • Objectives
  • Expose cadets to the Air Force way of life
  • Acquaint cadets with various career opportunities
  • Allow cadets to observe AF people accomplishing
    the mission on an Air Force installation
  • Eligibility
  • Scholarship recipients or designees who have
    completed AS 100

Rising Sophomore Summer Program RSSP (cont.)
  • Program Length 40 days (includes travel)
  • Travel to training on Monday
  • Return home Friday six weeks later
  • Training Dates 23 Jun 1 Aug 2003
  • Training Locations 1 of 5 AFBs in the US

Flight Awareness Summer Training (FAST)
  • Objectives
  • Foster interest in aviation among cadets
    attending Minority Institutions (MI) and
    Historically Black Colleges and Universities
    (HBCU)
  • Obtain FAA pilot certifications for participants
  • Increase minority pilots in the Air Force

  • Program Length 21 days
  • Training Dates Between mid-May and mid-June
  • Training Location Delaware State University,
    Dover DE
  • Eligibility Must be attending an HBCU or MI.

The Volunteer Process
  • PDT is voluntary
  • Apply for PDT programs at the unit
  • Obtain and complete a PDT Volunteer Statement
  • Volunteer for as many different programs as you
    want, provided
  • You meet ALL the eligibility and physical
    requirements listed for a particular program
  • You will be selected for no more than one PDT
    assignment

Things to Consider Before Volunteering for PDT
  • Think about which PDT programs you are interested
    in
  • Remember, some programs (AFAFF) are physically
    demanding and require you to pass a special PFT
    before being nominated by the Det CC--start
    training now!
  • Discuss PDT programs, training dates, and
    departure locations with your family and
    employers
  • PDT is voluntary. However, once you are
    selected, PDT becomes a commitment

Things to Consider When Volunteering for PDT
  • Training Dates
  • Program dates are still being determined
  • HQ AFROTC/DOXS will attempt to match program
    dates with your preferences
  • May not be possible in all cases
  • Some programs are available only at certain times
  • When completing your PDT Volunteer Statement,
    enter the timeframe you prefer to attend PDT
  • Early Summer, Mid Summer, Late Summer, or Anytime

  • Decide on a departure location
  • In accordance with the Joint Federal Travel
    Regulation, the only authorized departure
    locations are
  • Home of record
  • Location of AFROTC Detachment
  • Upon completing training you must return to the
    same location from which you departed
  • Consider how you will travel to PDT
  • Cadets selected for training may travel by POV or
    GTR (Government provided transportation)

Things to Consider Upon Being Selected for PDT
  • Do you have a current reserve ID card?
  • Required for all contract cadets
  • Is a Secret clearance required? It is if you
    want to attend CST
  • Do you have one?
  • If not, has the necessary paperwork been
    completed and submitted to get you one?

  • Get the necessary exams/paperwork scheduled
    and/or completed for any special medical and
    physical requirements
  • Physical exam certified AM-490 are required to
    attend AFAFF
  • Physical exam medical certification are
    required to attend CST

  • Complete your PDT Volunteer Statement
  • Discuss these programs, available training dates,
    and departure locations with your family and
    employers deconflict as necessary
  • By 1 Dec 2002 you should be ready to
  • Commit to a training program and training date
  • Turn your PDT Volunteer Statement in to your
    detachment PDT project officer
