Title: Senior Graduation Project

1
Senior Graduation Project
2
  • The Graduation Project is a
  • part of the existing Exit
  • Standards that must be fulfilled
  • by Seniors beginning with the
  • 2010 graduates and beyond.

3
  • YOU CANNOT GRADUATE
  • WITHOUT COMPLETING
  • AND PASSING THE
  • GRADUATION PROJECT!

4
The Four Components
  • Research Paper
  • Product
  • Portfolio
  • Presentation

5
Research Paper
  • 8 10 pages which demonstrates
  • the students ability to gather and
  • organize information.

6
Research Paper
  • Research paper will be started in English III
with completion of approximately 5 to 7 pages
    with a completed draft.
  • Complete 8 to 10 pages in English IV.
  • One resubmission within two weeks of the original
    submission.
  • Be double spaced, 1 margins, 12 pt. Times New
    Roman font only.
  • Have an MLA style bibliography with at least 10
sources (see MLA Reference Examples, MLA
    Electronic Sources)
  • Minimum 1 primary source (interview, email,
    survey, etc.)
  • Maximum 1 encyclopedia source
  • Maximum 5 internet sources
  • At least 6 sources cited in the paper (and on
    Works Cited page)
  • Show documentation is NOT plagiarized by using
  • www.turnitin.com and mydropbox.com
  • PLAGIARISM COULD RESULT IN AN INCOMPLETE ON THE
  • RESEARCH PAPER.

7
Product
  • A hands-on experience that
  • deals with some aspect of
  • the research paper.

8
Product
  • The product should be student-generated based on
individual interest, based on a student-created
    abstract/proposal., and approved by designated
    person(s).
  • The product is tangible evidence of the effort
and time invested in the endeavor (a minimum of
fifteen hours of work) to meet the criteria
    established for the product.
  • The product must be adequately documented with
    photographs, logs, letters, reflective journal
entries, and other forms of documentation.
  • Students should avoid choosing topics that might
require excessive expenses as the district does
not provide funding for student graduation
projects, and successful completion of a
graduation project is not dependent upon the
amount of money invested in the graduation
    project.
  • One resubmission within two weeks of the original
    submission.

9
Product
  • Many students create physical objects, such as
  • displays, models, art, charts, board games,
    crafts,
  • costumes, booklets, notebooks, and scrapbooks.
  • Other products are performance-based, such as
  • fashion shows, musical and dance performances,
  • athletic demonstrations, scientific experiments,
  • and culinary endeavors.

10
Product
  • Still others may be more service-oriented (e.g.,
  • volunteering at a local rest home or soup
    kitchen,
  • tutoring a struggling reader, or organizing a
  • walk-a-thon for a charitable cause). Many
  • students will be able to use job-shadowing
  • experiences, internships, and apprenticeships
  • as products. Some of these latter experiences
  • may result in a physical manifestation, such as a
  • scrapbook or journal, of the experience that
  • documents the students experience. In all
    cases,
  • the product should have a viable and logical link
  • to the research topic and thesis. Relevancy to
    the
  • topic is key in order for the product to be an
  • effective extension of learning.
