11Purpose of the workshop To provide a better
understanding of the basic and advanced
principles of data evaluation using statistical
tools. More specifically, the workshop is
intended to provide a) an improved ability to
apply statistical techniques for exploring the
statistical distribution pattern of a set of
data, b) the knowledge on the use of statistical
tools for being able to use elemental data to
characterize cultural objects and draw
conclusions about other goals such as
provenience, trade, use of the good, etc. and c)
knowledge on the way of presenting analytical
data and the conclusions to be drawn from them,
in reports to end-users. To get acquainted
with the Java version of the original Fortran
code SEARCH. This software will be distributed by
IAEA as an outcome of another TC activity (CRP
F2.30.23)
Regional Workshop on statistical data evaluation
12Nature of the workshopThe workshop will provide
lectures and practical exercises using computers.
The proposed syllabus is attached. The following
software will be used- Statistical software for
multivariate evaluation of datasets and producing
graphic output- Java version of the Fortran code
SEARCH developed by Mommsen for statistical
evaluation of dataIn addition, each participant
will be expected to make a presentation
describing his/her own work related to the
subject of the workshop.

38To IAEA1 The specific goals and the diversity
and complexity of planned tasks and activities in
this project suggest to consider the possibility
of using the services of the specialist that
worked as TO from the initial stages of
conception of this project till the end rather
than to transfer its surveillance to several new
officers with limited knowledge in the field.2
To provide the necessary funds for all foreseen
activities in the best possible terms and
timeframe.3 To assist in dissemination of the
results of the project to other Member States and
interested organizations. To ARCAL National
CoordinatorsTo provide the necessary support
for the efficient implementation of the
activities foreseen in this project, in the best
possible terms and timeframe.

co-ordinators approve this write-up and the Plan
of Activities described in this report. All
participants commit themselves to implement the
activities according to the agreed work plan in a
timely and effective manner.2. The project
goals are for the benefit of conservators,
curators, museum researchers and other
investigators working in the fields of
archaeology, art, and history. Agencies and
institutes related to cultural heritage
preservation in the participating countries will
use the database for enhancing the
contextualization of art/archaeological objects.
