Duties Involved

• Practical training in the function of a
• congressional office
• Administrative functions
• Constituent liaison
• Legislative research and support

• Briefing by the Australian Embassy
• US State Department briefing
• Meet with prominent senators and other members
• Meet with various lobby groups
• Attend a meeting at the famous Watergate complex
• Meet with non-government organisations and attend
  press briefings and hearings
• Meet Australian Embassy Officials and attend
  Australian Day celebrations
• Tour of the Gettysburg Military Battlefield Park
• Reception in honour of successful applicants at
  Capitol Hill
• Tours of Independence Hall, The Liberty Bell and
  US Constitution Centre in Philadelphia
• Optional trips to New York and Boston

• Share apartment
• Approx 4000 (9 weeks)

Application Process

• Application Form with supporting material
• Academic transcript
• Statement on why you wish to be considered for
  the internship
• An example of one of your written assignments
• Shortlist and interviews
• Teleconference with program coordinator usually
  on a Saturday morning
• A statement selecting, ranking and explaining
  your preferred placements

Selection Criteria

• Academic merit and life experiences (paid and
  unpaid)
• Ability to receive credit towards current program
• Assessment of reasons for wishing to participate
• High level of interpersonal skills and ability to
  work as a member of a team
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
