• MCRD is a unique asset for the all-volunteer
  military, provides 365-day training
• One of two Marine Corps recruit depots
• Some believe capacity to train more others that
  both MCRD and Parris Island are needed

• San Diego would welcome more
• Naval Station San Diego can accommodate at least
  25 additional ships.
• Naval Base Point Loma can accommodate 5 7
  additional nuclear-powered attack submarines
• Naval Air Station North Island and Marine Corps
  Air Station Miramar can accommodate additional
  fixed and rotary-wing aircraft
• SPAWAR has additional space for C4ISR research,
  development, test, evaluation, and acquisition
  activities and will have more space in two
  years when contractor work completed.

EDC Activities

• On-going monitoring and assessment of BRAC
  process
• Arm decisionmakers with our research
• Influence appointments to BRAC Commission
• Frequent and regular meetings (though harder to
  get)
• Developing a quick-response team with our
  congressional staffers, other electeds, volunteers

What California Can Do

• Use the power of Arnold to represent
  Californias interests
• Pay particular attention to support bases RD,
  depots, recruiting and training
• Begin a long-term statewide investment strategy
  in support of the military
