15
Individual Class Offerings
  • Math - You must have three credits of math.
  • If you have NOT taken Prealgebra, please make
sure you choose Prealgebra for your math course.
  • You must fulfill the PreAlg. requirement before
    taking Alg.I
  • If you struggle with math, you may choose to sign
up for Algebra l-A and 1-B. It will be best to
take these in the same year. This means that you
would be taking a math course the entire year and
    would receive two math credits.

16
Individual Class Offerings
  • Math - continued
  • Your other choice would be to take Algebra 1-A
this year and Algebra 1-B next year. If you
choose Algebra 1-B your sophomore year, you will
not be able to sign up for IPS until your
    sophomore year.
  • If you took Algebra 1 in the eighth grade and
earned less than a B on your final grade, you may
want to repeat Algebra 1. If you are a strong
math student and had no difficulty with Algebra
1, please sign up for Geometry.

17
Individual Class Offerings
  • Language
  • If you think you want to take four years of a
foreign language, please sign up for Spanish I
    or French I.
  • If you decide later that you would like to take
four years of a language, you can still double up
later to get your four years in.
  • If you completed Spanish I in the middle school
and got a B or better, please sign up for Spanish
    2 this year.
  • Please remember NO credit is given on your High
School transcript for any classes taken at the
    Middle School level.

18

  • Social Studies
  • You are required to have three credits of social
    studies.

Final Things to Remember
  • The electives that freshmen can take are typed in
    italics.
  • There are eight periods of class time in each
semester. If you choose a one-credit course, it
will take up two periods of time.
  • A one-half credit course will take up one class
period. If you want a study hall each semester,
this will count for two periods in your total.
  • Please choose classes to make up sixteen periods
    of class time.

30
Final Things to Remember contd
  • After you have chosen sixteen periods of class
time (including study halls) you must choose four
alternative courses that you would like to take
in case your first choices are not available.
  • Please choose carefully because many times we
must choose from this list if your first choices
    are not available.
  • Please take these alternative choices seriously
because we often use them to finish your
    schedule.
  • DO NOT TURN IN YOUR SCHEDULE WITHOUT FILLING IN
    ALL FOUR ALTERNATIVE CHOICES!

31
