December 2007 This Announcement is open to all
applicants. Applicants found qualified under this
flyer will be placed on an inventory list that
will be used to fill permanent career-conditional
vacancies at the GS-5 through GS-9 grade levels
with non-competitive promotion potential to
GS-12. There will be periodic cut-off dates as
vacancies occur.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This is a formal, two-year paid program with the
Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme.
Typical assignments of Computer Scientists
involve the new development, design,
modification, and/or integration of automated
systems in weapon systems, missiles, guns, fire
control systems, three dimensional radar, digital
computers, microprocessors, and launching systems.
PROMOTION OPPORTUNITIES
Computer Scientists hired at the GS-5 or GS-7
grade levels will be placed on a six month
training program consisting of a combination of
on-the-job assignments, formal and informal
training, and self development activities. Upon
completion of this training program, computer
scientists will be eligible for a one-time
accelerated promotion to the next higher grade
level. Individuals who have been promoted under
the accelerated promotion or who are initially
hired at the GS-9 level will be eligible for
promotion to the next higher grade level one year
from their prior promotion until the target grade
level of GS-12 has been reached. Promotions are
not guaranteed.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
(1) U.S. citizenship required. (2) Requires
ability to provide technical information, both
orally and in writing to peers, shipboard
personnel, and contractors. (3) Probation
Selectees will be required to serve a one-year
probationary period. (4) Security Clearance Must
be able to obtain and maintain a secret security
clearance. (5) Travel Frequent travel required,
usually 11 or more nights per month or 3-4
consecutive months in duration. Regular shipboard
visits required. Travel may be required on short
notice. (6) Working conditions Shipboard visits
may cause exposure to moderate discomforts such
as excessive heat and high noise levels. (7)
Relocation "First post of duty" relocation
expenses to Port Hueneme, California, will be
paid. (8) Reasonable Accommodation - This agency

PERIOD OF ELIGIBILITY
Applications or resumes will be retained and
considered for six months after eligibility has
been determined. Applicants may be removed from
consideration due to acceptance of a permanent
position, failure to reply to official

prior to the expiration date if an application is
to be retained for consideration for an
additional period. Applicants must also notify
this office of any changes in name, address,
telephone, email and availability. If an
applicant does not notify this office of
continued interest OR does not respond to any
inquiries within 14 days, the application will
automatically be placed in the inactive inventory
list and disposed of as appropriate.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
For GS-5 Bachelors degree with 30 semester hours
in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and
computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester
hours must have been in any combination of
statistics and mathematics that included
differential and integral calculus. For GS-7
Bachelors degree AND either one of the
following - Superior academic achievement -
cumulative GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) in all
undergraduate coursework or during the last two
academic years of study or graduate in the upper
third of the graduating class or membership in a
National Scholastic Honor Society OR - 1 year of
graduate level education (18 semester units)
OR - 1 year (12 months) of full-time professional
computer scientist experience acquired after the
completion of the Bachelors degree. For GS-9
Masters degree OR Bachelors degree AND either
one of the following- - Superior academic
achievement cumulative GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0)
in all undergraduate coursework or during the
last two academic years of study or graduated in
the upper third of the graduating class or
membership in a National Scholastic Honor
Society AND 1 year of professional computer
scientist experience acquired after the
completion of the Bachelors degree OR - 2 years
of graduate level education (36 semester units)
OR - 2 years (24 months) of full-time
professional computer scientist experience
acquired after completion of the bachelors
degree. NOTE - Part-time work is prorated in
crediting experience (e.g., 20 hours per week for
a 12 month period 6 months of experience). For
education completed in a foreign institution, you
must submit evidence that the education has been
evaluated and deemed at least equivalent to that
gained in conventional U.S. education
programs. Applicants who expect to complete their
education within the next nine months may apply.
Such applicants must indicate their expected
graduation date on the application or resume.
Applicants may be tentatively selected for
positions, but will only be appointed when proof
of completion of education has been
