Conclusions
  • Boating is getting safer over time
  • Sailing is pretty safe compared to other
    activities
  • Drowning is the problem
  • Head injuries are no picnic, either
  • Wearing flotation is a big part of the solution

So how does this apply to Transpac?
  • This summer, 5-10 boats will arrive in Honolulu
(or Hilo) and will report the following
  • Lost our rudder/steering
  • Lost our rig
  • Couldnt start the engine/couldnt report pos.
  • Couldnt use the head
  • Lost half our water by Catalina
  • Ran out of food/had to eat crackers w/mustard for
    2 days

Dont be one of those boats!

Whats important
  • Dont infect your crewmembers
  • Wash your hands keep clean
  • Teach your crew how to avoid trauma/head injuries
